Devs fans here an interwebs are mixed on the return. I have always been a Holtz or 1st and adds as necessary. Came around a bit on the pkg but now I am back to a deal simialar to Debrincat and maybe sweeting a bit.
With Holtz not playing in games and not in Utica makes me feel that Fitz is A. Trying not to break him for a trade or B. Keeping other teams as far away as possible, I am not sure where this stands from day-to-day. Both teams that make this deal will feel they gave up too much which usually means it was a far as could be!

Take out Holtz and it’s close. Fiala got Faber and a 1st in off-season…so Mukhamadullin + 1st + [whatever it costs for 2 months of Meier] is probably consistent with that the market would pay.

My offer had been Muk + 2023 1st + 2024 1st at deadline if Meier signs around $8m or less.

Holtz is very, very, very unlikely to be traded. The haul for SJ would be a good one though.

Fiala is probably a good comp for what Meier will return. I know SJ fans want the moon for Meier, but he's not going to have a Tkachuk or Debrincat level return.

Fiala isn't a good comp at all in my opinion. The Minnesota cap situation was dire and they both had to trade Fiala and take back all futures for him. San Jose can easily pay Meier and keep him, they just don't want to. As an outside observer to this one I'm pretty interested to see how it plays out.

Fiala’s qualifying offer was also reasonable that almost any team would sign. Meier’s is $10 million, so is likely looked at as closer to UFA than RFA for most teams.

If that is the posture other teams are talking, as been reported in Daily Faceoff and the Athletic, then they will likely want an extension in place. But once you invite another decision maker to take table (player/agent), it could also limit the return (see Mark Stone 2019).
