As a rental with even less time and more control than Horvat how much more do you think he gets, if we're hypothesising DET can't/won't/don't re-sign him? (BTW I do actually expect them to sign him.) Horvat's price has set the market to a degree, and I'd argue that's more than Horvat fetched for VAN. I'd agree it isn't a great offer, and/or the pieces may not be right for DET, but what exactly are you expecting for him?

To widen my point that's too much in assets for the Avs. Their top F propsect, top D prospect, a 1st albeit late in a very deep draft, and their D corps leader who would also have to waive, and likely wouldn't (plus I don't thinkt he Avs would do EJ dirty like that). To the Avs that's emptying the cupboard, whatever you may think of the quality.
