Yes they do. They can even throw in a prospect goalie like Woll.

You've already got TOR's best trade pieces in here (their 1st and Knies) and it doesn't move the needle for NSH here. Woll isn't of a ton of interest, when NSH already has Askarov.

Saros and Ekholm are good pieces, but don't get too carried away here. What have they won in their careers? A Norris? No. A Vezina? No. Stanley Cups? No.

What do think Nashville should get for them? Matthews, Marner, Rielly, two 1sts, Knies, and Niemela?

Yea, that's why I think the Leafs should trade for them.

Yzerman can call his buddy Jimmy Nill in Dallas and get a better deal for Bertuzzi than this. Or any team for that matter. Besides why would the Leafs trade Holl? Most Leaf fans on CFACGM don't understand proper trade value. "Rental" doesn't equal garbage returns.

Dubas can dump his own rentals.

Sorry, I forgot about all the awards Marner and Rielly have won so far.

But seriously, if NSH were going to not only go all in on tanking by selling off all these players, but decide to bundle them to one team instead of getting more for them in individual trades, they'd have to be getting something huge back in return. This isn't it.

Even with Ekholm gone, NSH still has Josi, McDonagh, & Lauzon at LD - all with significant term. All their defense prospects who've turned pro and are closest to being NHL ready are lefties. Sandin doesn't fill a need for NSH. He's another player, in an area of surplus.

Knies is a good prospect, but again NSH has a lot of wing prospects and he wouldn't be one of their best ones.

When it comes to futures, NSH's biggest needs are at RD and C.

There's no high end young asset here, because TOR doesn't have one to offer. And NSH would need at least one of those in a deal like this, in addition to other pieces like a Knies, and a late 1st, etc.

I'm no fan of Murray, but Saros and Murray stats aren't that much different this year.
Leaf are much better keeping young 1.4m Sandin than a aging 5m Ekholm. Trading two NHL Dman and only getting one in return is a losing proposition .

Again it seems to be typical Leafs posts.....trading for marginally improvement if any, and trading away cost efficient future. Really poor roster management .

Holl and Engvall aren't very flippable assets. It'd end up being a third and two fourths for Bert, but I know you know Bert has more value than that. Because you've added him to your top 6.

I feel like you are not so much huss and fuss so I will just ask bluntly. The Wings have two retention slots available. Holl and Engvall would need retention on "flips" as Holl and Engvall are (with Kerfoot depending on the day) used as "cap casualties in 90% of trades involving other players. In saying that, why would Detroit trade one player (who will need retention if shipped out), for two lesser players that would yield a lesser return while taking up both other retention slots?

Now as a side note, assume the worst for Detroit that Larkin won't be coming back. He will need retention to maximize value. Suter, Maata, Vrana (nobody knows what will happen), Sunny, Hronek (unlikely but again anything can happen) all are possible candidates for retention. Adding Engvall and Holl into that bunch hurts more than helps.

The trade is essentially Bertuzzi for a late 3rd with Holl and Engvall there for cap purposes...

Someone needs to dress and play. If Detroit is shipping out all those players then having Holl and Engvall around for the rest of the season will be really useful. They can help Detroit get worse and get a better pick.

Murray is not an NHL goalie because he hardly ever plays while Saros is an all star on a good contract with term. Comparing their stats is ridiculous.

And if the Leafs want to win now, Ekholm is a much better option than Sandin. It's not even close. Yes, Sandin will be a really good defenceman but the Leafs don't have time to be patient.

Fair enough, although it is highly unlikely that all of them do get dealt, considering the amount of talent rumored to be out there. Seems more worth while to save retention for players already here, considering the potential returns and the fact that Detroit is already looking like a lottery team without those two.

I'll disagree with you that the Leafs don't have time. Succcessful teams "pay their stars" but need cost efficient ELC or even RFAs to make the cap and roster work. Dubas and so many Leaf fans don't seem to realize this, trading away so many cost efficient futures for "now" is not a winning combo.

No time to be patient? Well in a summer of 2024, and 2025 Leafs will have lost of cap to sign players and UFA as six big contract will be gone via UFAs. It's only practical that there is a bunch of young players on cheap contracts to be on the roster.
