Meier resigns in Calgary for 8 years at 9 mil/year.

If SJ is willing to retain 50% on Meier Calgary changes Phillips to Zary and uses the extra cap space to pick up a pretty decent defenseman.

And in the off-season we trade Backlund so Ruzicka can take over 3C, and Toffoli too, in order to make this work, with the other extensions coming into force.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Meier
Mangiapane - Kadri - Dube
Pelletier - Ruzicka - Coleman
Something - Something - Duehr

Or Pelletier at 2L, Mang 2R, Dube 3L ... but Sutter doesn't like young players, and Pelletier hasn't earned it yet anyway.

Exactly!

Tanev would be an option to move instead of Backlund too. Or maybe move all three since Coronato and Zary could be on the team next year too.

Thought Huberdeau was the replacement for Tkachuk. Isn't that why they made the trade?

Huberdeau isn't a power winger he's a playmaker. He may have been traded for Tkachuk but the player he replaced was little johnny.

Don't be silly Looch is only in there to make the cap work without requiring any retention on Meier. Looch is owed less than 500k in actual real money now which makes him the perfect candidate to add for cap reasons for both sides. The only real question is will he waive for SJ?

Meier is a point a game and total you have 13 points from someone who sits on thr 4th line

That's a ridiculous take. It isn't trading Looch for Meier, it's trading a mid 2023 1st round pick, a top 4 defenseman (probably with conditions on his return) and a high skill prospect for Meier. Looch is only in there to make the cap work without requiring retention on Meier. SJ will wind up paying Looch less than 500k in total before his contract ends this summer.

You have the "what is the immediate point total value" blinders on. Like Mox said, Lucic is only there to make the dollars work. Sharks are trading Meier for a top 4 D-man (when he's around - obviously this trade counts on him being around soon or at least by next year), a player who may or may not be a 3rd line guy at some point for the Sharks, and a 1st round pick.

I'll grant that the Sharks will do better for Meier, but the Lucic thing is indisputable.

This ain’t it. A cap dump, someone not playing all year, a small forward who is good in the ahl but who knows in the nhl and likely an out of lottery 1st. I don’t see much value here for San Jose.

the flamers are going nowhere, they dont have elite top end skill, and meier isnt going to fix that.and a 1st and kylington wont come close to getting him,he brings more.the dumbest thing the flamers can do is give away another 1st,trying to get in, or win a round.they need to actually try to build through the draft for once.

Kylington is worth a first. Of course there'd be conditions based on his return.

Interesting that you have cgy re-signing Meier for 9m per, in your scenario, cgy will only have about 5M in cap space for next year.

And to pay for it, you would have get rid of Backlund for free and will have to add another 1st rounder cause no one is taking his 5.3M cap hit.

Wrong. Any of Backlund, Tanev or Toffoli could be traded to free up cap space. All 3 are still pretty good and only have next year left on their contracts. If Pelletier sticks plus Zary and Coronato make the team next year all 3 could be traded freeing up enough space to pay Meier and pick up another defenseman to replace Tanev.

kylington is not worth a first until he is back in north america playing, not skating over in sweden by himself.

Obviously that's why there would be conditions based on his return. If he doesn't return by a certain date Calgary has to fork over something else (likely a 1st round pick). San Jose can wait for him to return even if it's not until next season but Calgary can't.

your dreaming on kylington, his value is low until hes back.but again a 1st and kylington isnt near enough for timo, whats phillips worth a 3rd or 4th,darryl wont give him a chance.and for someone to take lucic, you have to give up assets.timo isnt at horvat level, but your missing one more significant piece, upgrade your prospect and maybe, but the flamers dont have many prospects because they keep trading there picks, only 3 picks in lasts yrs draft.does timo bring a cup,no he doesnt,so keep the 1st.the flames have to quit thinking short term, its getting them nowhere.

Stop make the same silly circular argument. I've repeatedly said THERE WOULD BE CONDITIONS BASED ON KYLINGTONS RETURN. You do understand what conditions are I hope. I even said it would likely be a 1st round pick if he doesn't return by a certain date.

There is an ignore function on this site. You're close to being the first one I use it on.

who makes a trade saying theres conditions, like a first pick if he doesnt return by such a date.its very simple,he isnt worth much, until we know what kylington is dealing with and can see him back playing.your a flames fan and im interested in what your saying, but u bash every canuck deal, never on the canuck side ever.but ignore the fact huberdeau at 10.5 m till hes 40 yrs old is worse than jt at 8,25.is horvat now at 8.5 m,now untradeable.if u dont like being challenged in a fair way, then do what u need.the only guys i get rid of are people who are just plain ignorant, not because they disagree with me.

None of those three will be more than AHL all stars. They will never be regular NHLers. I'll chat with ya in 5 years to say I told you so.
