This deal doesn't make any sense for the Wild. Minnesota is taking on more money they don't have space for in the NHL player swap, and while Olofsson is the better goal scorer, Hartman is better in every other facet. Then they're swapping a RD prospect, where they lack depth, for a LD prospect, where they have a lot of good depth.

Wild won't do this due to cap situation. Wild need guys on ELC's. i like Olofsson with Boldy, could be fun to watch, I just think in the current situation the Wild couldn't afford this deal. It's also a bit early to look at moving Spacek. He was a 5th rounder but could end up being a mid pairing guy. I would accept this if the Wild weren't in cap hell for 2 more years.

That Minnesota trade is horrendous for Buffalo. Hartman had 1 year where he got carried and he's almost 30, he's not a 60 points guy. And why are they throwing away Peterka, yikes

Hartman is still a 45-50 point player away from Kap and Zucc and he gets zero power play time. At $1.7M that’s extremely valuable. The pieces coming back in this trade are not great. We can’t afford Olofsson’s contract and there is zero room for Johnson with Hunt/O Rourke/Lambos/Peart all vying for spots in the AHL next year.

I’d say, if Buffalo really wants Hartman+Spacek then one of your center prospects has to be coming back (Ostlund or Kulich). Otherwise, it just doesn’t make sense for Minnesota.

Kulich is untouchable and Ostlund has more value than Hartman now, let alone when he's fully developed. Hartman is a 25-30pt forward. Even if he was a 45 pt player, if the Sabres are moving Ostlund, they could do better

Interesting ideas,
but seems more likely in a video game than reality

Gonna be really tough to get the Oilers to pry with Bouchard imo

And idk that Minny would even consider Olofsson bc of their Salary Cap issues- they won’t be able to afford his next contract

Hartman, when in a top 6 role, is a 50+ point player. He can play center and wing. He’s gritty. Pretty good at 5v5 goal scoring. GTFO with this “25-30 point player” bullcrap.

His career average is 27 points. And what team is giving him a top 6 role. And50 points in the top 6 isn't that great

You realize that career average can skew numbers, right? If you used career numbers, Tage Thompson is a 51 point player. How dumb would that be if I used that as an argument to discount Thompson and what he is now? Pretty dumb.

Hartman was #28 in the NHL last year for even strength points. He’s averaged 51 points per 82 the last 3 years, with almost none of that on the power play.

50 even strength points in the top 6 is FANTASTIC. Seriously. Look at who scored 50 ES points last year.

The point didn't go over my head, the point was nonsensical. When evaluating a player you look at their aggregate not one year that's clearly an outlier. 3x his normal production out of nowhere, you drop stats like that or else it muddies the data

Except your model doesn't account for an increased role, which he's only had for the last two seasons. That’s a major oversight to your flawed model.

So, is Thompson a 51 point player? That’s what your model says he is.
