Description
I tried to make sense of it.

I can't.

If the Ekholm trade doesn't make sense for Ottawa, then the other two trades probably don't make sense for Ottawa either.

FFS! Learn how to read.

Why would I mention resigning one of our goalies if I thought you were talking about this season?

Why do you think the team is jumping through hoops to avoid waiving a goalie right now if we have no intention of resigning one of them?

My dog has more reasoning skills than you are displaying here, and he's been dead for twenty years.

1. FFS! Learn how not to gaslight.

2. Because you implied that I was talking about this season.
Quoting: Billy12Bob

Detroit currently are carrying three goalies on the roster in Husso, Nedeljkovic, and Hellberg. What in the world made you think we would trade for another one instead of just resigning one of the ones we have.

3. Since when did I say Detroit has to "jump through hoops" to avoid waiving a goalie?

4. The fact that you're still grieving over a dog that has been dead for twenty years is saddening.

Just move on.

You'll feel better.

1. Husso is not a NHL starter.

2. You spent a 3rd on Nedeljkovic and then you spent a 3rd on Husso's UFA signing rights.

Nedeljkovic is playing elsewhere next season and Detroit will need another NHL goalie for next season.

It is what it is.

OTT might want to take a chance on Nedeljkovic, I'd probably rather him that Foresberg next season.

Not worth it for ottawa unless the preds add one of Askarov/Kemell/Svechkov or any top prospect. Debrincat to Ekholm is too much of an age increase and Ekholm is being paid a good amount into his late 30s. So his value is closer to McDonagh than Debrincat

This trade rumor really doesn't make any since to me. Ekholm has a bad contract and is over age for the sens window. I understand they really wan to find another top 4 D to play with Sanderson, but this isn't the answer.

If we are talking about including Debrinkcat to get a Rd then it better be a top pairing guy or a 2nd pairing guy and a good winger prospect. And that is only if debrincat won't sign for 9 per or less.

Anyone have the link to this Fourth Period rumour?

I love Ekholm. But can he play on the right side. If not, then on we go to the next guy. Excellent “Comin’ in Hot” podcast today where they looked at top 4 RD targets - Jensen, Severson, Murphy were the three. I think Severson comes in around Ekholm money as a UFA. Jensen might be an ideal bridge guy until JBD is ready.

I don't think Ekholm fetches that. Even with Zaitsev added, that's a lot. He's also much older than Lindholm and not entirely sure he was ever better than Lindholm but that's debateable. He surely isn't now.

Hampus Lindholm was 5 years younger than Ekholm is now when the trade happened so can't be used as a comparable. Yes Zaitsev is there but I don't think Ekholm has that kind of value... A first and 3 seconds? With his age and salary? But I'd do something close to that

If anything, that just further reinforces my point - we already traded for our starter (who other teams were trying to trade for as well) and aren't trading for a backup. It makes zero sense.

Why is Husso a starter and Forsberg a backup?

Forsberg has been nothing short of spectacular in Ottawa... 0.909 SV%, 0.917 SV% and 0.909 SV% behind that kind of coaching and defense?

Forsberg is easily better than Nedeljkovic

Goalies are far from the problem in Ottawa. Look at coaching and management (who destroyed the bottom-6 and never fixed the RD)

Husso is a starter because he's signed as one and Detroit isn't trading for another goalie, that's the whole point. I'm not debating which is better (even though I'd still pick Husso), it's just a roster and asset management issue, which the OP refuses to acknowledge.

Because Forsberg is not a UFA, unlike Husso?

And Detroit will need another NHL goalie for next season because Nedljkovic/Hellberg will be playing elsewhere?

And goaltending is a big issue in Detroit, like you said?

Right because you're an expert in knowing if Hellberg will or will not be in a Red Wings jersey this summer, He loves playing in Detroit and i can see Yzerman signing him to a cheap one year deal.

He's played a grand total of 6 games for Detroit in his entire career and Yzerman placed him on waivers last April.

If you have a resume that shows you could be "the expert" on Hellberg, then make sure to apply for the job.

Stevie Y would love to have you on board.

Or how many players on the Habs are any good?

I personally don't want to trade Joseph to Montreal (for a 2nd), that'd make them better

He's like a less physical Josh Anderson but paid accordingly. He scores a bit less but is better defensively

Ok. Maybe it was just wording but reading "aren't trading for a backup" didn't reflect Forsberg quality of play in the last 2 years.

Dorion is IMO the worst GM in the league, I don't dislike Talbot at all and think he's a good vet but he traded Gustavsson who will be or is probably already better for 1 year and a higher salary when that money (and even resources) should have been invested in strengthening the RD side... Dorion makes some good moves (with a splash) but he has no idea about roster construction, asset management and he lacks foresight big time

Forsberg-Gustavsson would have been an excellent goalie duo, even more if the RD was improved.

1. Hellberg will be signing with another team.

2. You spent a 3rd on Nedeljkovic.

And his SV% went from .932 in Carolina to .901 in Detroit the following season.

A player's trade value isn't dictated by just his stats.

3. Please have a closer look at the description.

Because he's a UFA and there are 31 other NHL teams that could use a borderline AHL goalie.
