You're part of the way there but this still isn't close to all in for the Leafs. They still have a 1st to trade, their prospect pool is intact, etc. If you want what all in looks like, look at where the Panthers are now. No picks to trade, all their big prospects are gone, etc. They went all in.

The Leafs need to shoot their shot and go all in this year by trading multiple 1st round picks. Tampa traded their firsts to acquire guys like Coleman and Hagel, and they were rewarded with playoff success.

And it's better to trade multiple 1sts in the same deal this year then trade a 1st rounder this year and next year in separate trades.

The 2025 1st may not hold a lot of value for teams, and apart from Knies, who is untouchable imo, the Leafs don't have high end prospects to trade.

In contrast, I'd argue the 2025 1st might be the most valuable 1st the Leafs have to trade. That's the season after Matthews and Nylander's extensions are due. The Leafs could easily be a lottery team come that season.

With the cap going up, and Dubas having a knack for finding cost-effective guys, I think the Leafs will find a way to stay competitive. As long as the four superstar forwards remain on this team they will make the playoffs.

I get that its going on in but lets be honest, this would be disastrous for the leafs. This is the kind of move that would get dubas fired if leafs fall short of anything but the cup, and even if they did win it (a big if) the next 5 years would be looking pretty rough.

It's a gamble, but the Leafs have to believe they can win it all. Dubas has not been averse to trading picks in the past couple of years and the Leafs are still doing great. They can afford to be cavalier with late 1st rounders for a couple more seasons.

Problem is that we, at the moment, can keep competing for years to come. Giving up all non roster assets worth anything ruins multiple competitive years in the future. Maybe when the core gets a bit older you can talk about all in, but now is not the time.

If the Canucks are trading you both Kuzmenko and Horvat you're giving up Knies and there's not really any way around it.

Yeah the Canucks aren’t doing that. Knies and your 2023 1st to get the discussion started for both of them

That's not happening. Both guys are UFAs and would be rentals for the Leafs.

Leafs have not made Knies available in trade talks, and certainly not for UFAs.

Not able to resign Matthews and Nylander, if this is what your insinuating? They would still have Marner and JT and over 18.5 million in cap space With that cap and able to sign players they would be far from a lottery team

All that for 2 rentals, don't know if a GM could pull the trigger. If he did lose his job in the off-season from lack of success in the playoffs after a waste of assets it would make teams wonder about his ability to put the team before his job.

That’s probably the only way you’re getting both Horvat and Kuzmenko, unless Liljegren is made available (which is obviously a long shot)
