Habs fan here….I think they would let Dvorak go for just the first but don’t see them retaining salary.

Maybe Dvorak for a first, contract that ends after this year and a 3rd for taking the contract

You don't want Dvorak for his production. He's a strong 2-way C and faceoff man. That's a luxury Toronto can't afford with his contract.
Multi-year retention isn't worth using the slot on for Montreal.

Dvorak will likely be available after the habs take a few days to find a health body to replace him in the lineup (suzuki is already being overused as is) but i find it hard to believe montreal will want to retain on him but I'm not saying no

Kerfoot is still on the team. If Dvorak doesn’t produce in the top 6 he’s a great 3C

I know he’s not know for production but in the OHL with marner he had 100 plus points twice. Maybe some can come back. Like 20 goals 55 points.

Retaining 800000 on a retooling team won’t hurt the habs, that a league min contract on ur roster that never plays. Not a big deal for a team that doesn’t need to be at the max cap

It's not the money it's the maximum 3 retention slots... habs will have to use 2 in Monahan and edmundson so if they use the 3rd on dvorak they can't maximize their cap space as a 3rd team retaining on a big name ufa and they'll go into next season with only 1 spot available...

Or, hear me out. We don't mortgage our future for a 3rd liner with a contract with way too much term and AAV. Just a thought.

Cause maybe he was a terrible Arizona team and then a not good Montreal team. I don’t think it’s crazy that the production could go up when he plays with skilled plays that he’s played with before

why are we spending a first and our 2nd best prospect to see what "could" go up on production. 1sts are spent on players who are actually producing, especially at that age. He's not an upgrade on Kerf or Engvall, or at least enough of one to give up our best trade chip for, while having to take on that contract when we have to re-sign so many key players during its duration (core 4, Sandin, Lily, Kampf, Bunting, Samsonov, etc)

Bro they are both still on the team. It’s called depth. I would say he’s better then Engvall. Better defensively, can take face offs and has more point.
Engvall is the comparable because in this situation Engvall is out and Dvorak is in

I did not know that was a rule. So yes that’s definitely something that they would think about. Just ideas tho

Ya I agree it’s a lot to give up. There’s no way it will actually happen too. Maybe if he played for the Sault

I would rather have Engvall, he's super good at carrying the puck up ice. Dvorak isn't as valueable at twice the cap
