Value seems right for Klingberg. Leafs have struggled to generate offence from their D this year but they have been extremely good defensively. I am curious if they would be interested in Klingberg.

I assume they would try to keep Engvall unless they get a forward at the deadline as well.

I’d probably be fine with it besides the Rico trade

I think if we deal him it’s for futures not a more offense minded defenseman

Leafs want nothing to do with Klingberg, we already had Tyson Barrie. We don't need another one

What do you think ANA would look for in futures in a Rico trade?

50% retained I think he could bring back a 1st and I think Colorado is the top option for that

Teams don't subtract from their lineup at the TDL if they are buying. They also don't take on a bad contract for an additional year. Henrique and Winnipeg say no.

Nah this would be a great trade for the Jets.
Henrique would make our top6 better, and we're essentially trading two kinda 'iffy' contracts for each other. Plus we have younger defensemen who can replace what Schmidt brings on the ice.
But you're right Henrique likely has Winnipeg on his NTC, and I highly doubt Anaheim would do this trade.

Nah, this would be terrible for the Jets. Trading a good starting defenseman for an older luxury player does nothing for the Jets and isn't the kind of deal you consider at the TDL. Especially getting stuck with an expensive, old LW for another year.

Schmidt simply plays a more important position.

I like Derek Grant but the biggest downside of him in Pittsburgh is he’ll barely get playing time again. Sully didn’t really use him much when we signed him. He didn’t get much playing time at all.

Schmidt is fine, but he's not a game-breaker. Henrique is a pretty good, but also not a gamebreaker. They are fairly equivalent players. You say it's a more important position, and you bring up the contract, but the Jets have too many middle-pair defensemen as it is, and not enough decent forwards. Henrique's contract is actually better than Schmidt's because it ends a year earlier. (also Henrique is only one year older than Scmidt lol). Even if you think Schmidt is better, Henrique has the better contract no question, and plays a position the JETS need more, not the more important position.
This would be a fantastic value trade for the Jets, so the fact you can't see that is kind of ridiculous.
Trade protections stop this trade in its tracks though. Henrique probably has Winnipeg on his NTC, and Schmidt might not waive for Anaheim either.

The fact that you can't see that a starting defenseman is far more important than an expensive bottom 6 LW is kind of ridiculous. It's also equally ridiculous to think that a team that is buying at the TDL is going to trade a solid starting roster player for depth help. What buying team does that at the TDL?

It's a lot harder to find competent NHL defenseman, that expensive bottom 6 role players.

Wow. Adam Henrique is not a Bottom Six winger. he scored 42 points in 58 games last year, and is off to a slow-ish start for scoring this year. But he has great underlying stats while playing on an NHL top line, even if it is on a bad team. You realize Nate Schmidt is currently playing on our bottom pairing because we have too many defensemen right? A buying team that is prioritizing both the present and the future does this trade. This is a hockey trade, not a "buying" trade. Move other assets to pick up a depth defenseman if you need one, but right now we have too many defensemen, and not enough quality forwards. You move a defenseman with a similar cap hit, contract, age, and ability. It's really just simple.
Regardless of "importance of position" Henrique as an individual player is more valuable than Schmidt is.
Anyway, doesn't happen due to trade protections
