Sujet: honest truth about fixing team
This team can work I think. Of course still needs some work but I’m honestly hoping Jake does return. I don’t see why they don’t end up taking a run at bringing him back. At the same time I want to see how much more damage DOC can do with more ice time because he really made the most of playing with Sid the last month of hockey for us. At the same time I feel like we can rely on him to play on the third line with Eller and Puustinen. Also I do really think the best outcome for Smith is for him to be moved. He brings creativity but he also just didn’t really seem to bring a lot of heart in to every game. Our bottom 6 has a lot of potential. The third line I wouldn’t make much changes for as long as we have Eller centering the third line. The 4th line is good defensively but not offensively which is what should change.
Our blueline 100% needs to be addressed and lineup changes. I think to get the best Erik Karlsson is for him to become our true number 1 dman with Pettersson as his partner. As for Letang he’ll get a reduced role but still play a big part in the lineup. Graves I believe can still be a solid defencemen, just may need to stick on the third pairing for a full-season till we know he can take on bigger minutes again. Basically what Sully did with Pettersson. It’ll be hard to find a partner for Letang on the 1st/2nd pair but it can be done. Third pairing can become really good depending on the plans.
I think coaching does need to be addressed. I love Sully and wouldn’t be mad if he remains our coach moving forward. But something needs to happen to give this team a jolt. If Sully remains I’d at least want to see a whole new staff behind him.

Sujet: My Season grades for the Pens players and management
Honestly I feel like this past few weeks could be momentum built up for the start of next season. Last year at the end of the season this team was dead in the water and became more and more predictable we were missing the playoffs. This year they finished strong. It seems our hopes of O’Connor and Puustinen becoming potential top 6 wingers are coming to fruition. But for now they are for sure going to be mainstays that can play up and down the lineup.
Obviously changes will be made with the roster but I do hope something changes with the coaching staff as well. Even though I still believe Sully can coach this team to success, a shakeup could be necessary moving forward.
I’m not gonna lie, I feel better about going in to next season. They have proven they can make a push, they missed the playoffs by 3 points and were arguably better than both Washington and Detroit. Both Washington and Detroit barely lucked their way in to playoffs and were struggling heavily to win games these past few weeks while Pittsburgh was just rolling and rolling. Of course, this team needs to learn how to hold on to leads.

Matter of fact the only one that actually looks like he might be is Crosby right now. Nothing against Jake but he's no Crosby.

The worst thing is to get stuck into a TJ Oshie like deal, he's making almost 6 million and putting up 18 points in 38 games for the year and looks cooked.
So it's pretty clear those contracts don't end well. On a 7 year deal for Jake you are probably looking at 3 years 35,36,37 of that contract not being worth the 9-10 million he wants. I'm not sure that is going to fly. Which is why I say when he hits FA his expectations are probably going to come down a bit. Because I don't know anyone who's going to say Jake will play well till 37 and be worth 9-10 million in those years.
At best he'd be worth maybe 6 and putting up 50 points 60 games in like a lot of that list above at 36, at worst the tires are completely off like Oshie and he's not worth his contract at all.
That's why I think a 5 year deal is most likely at the 8 million range is sort of a fair deal for all. But I think he wants a Pasta like deal. But he signed that at 26 and it will end at 34. I don't think it's hard to see pasta playing well to 33. Which is most of the contract. Even if he's not worth 11 million in his last year, he'll be worth it for most of it.

There’s always going to be hit and misses. But I don’t think Jake is going to be a miss. He’s not just a product of Sid. Him and Sid made each other better.

Zibanejad was 28 at the time of his extention. He got 8 years. Scheifele and Helly both 30 both have 7 year extensions. Huberdeau was 29 at the time of his extention. 8 years. It was a good signing at the time but little did we know he’d just disappear and Calgary would crash. Pietrangelo got a 7 year deal at 30. Miller got a 7 year extention when he was 29. I think the point should be gotten at this point. All long term deals in recent years for players closing in on 30.
