So this is what it feels like to have a top 10 Center

Description
I may be showing my age, but since I've been a hockey fan the Canadiens have never had a Center that finished the season as a top 30 scorer in the league.

Nick Suzuki is currently tied for 5th for all Centers in the league and is tied for 10th in scoring in general. It feels really good. If the season ended today, the Habs are holding down that last wildcard spot in the east, which feels even better.

There is probably 1 trade the Habs should make, for a RHD. I wonder if/when the Blues declare as sellers. We should go and get Justin Faulk if we can.
Transactions

Older player with a big contract. This would be a risky move, but if the Habs make the playoffs, this is the kind of player they need in the second season

Parayko seems to be playing worse, but he's also more expensive to get.

I will add Mysak and a 3rd round pick for Parako.

Montreal need a defenseman who can play both sides and Parako can bounce-back in MTL. Also, his style is a little bit like Weber, but more offensively.

I would add. I think Faulk is '"gettable". Not sure Parayko is gonna be on the block eve if the team is bottom feeding. With Thomas & Kyrou recently signed and on the team... They are not rebuilding, they are re-tooling.

I'm doubting Faulk is "gettable." An American, with a NTC, coming to Montreal and possible non playoff team.

Parayko isn't more offensive than Weber nor is he near as gritty. For either Faulk or Parayko, this offer doesn't get it done.

Maybe. I know you have a bias, but I think the word is getting around the league about MSL and players mostly want to come play for him.

The Habs hold the last wildcard spot in the east right now, so it is entirely possible that they can make the playoffs. It's early, but generally where the teams are at the 20 game mark, if they can stay healthy, is a good indicator of where they will end the season.

fun fact : in 2009-2010, plekanec finshed 28th in scoring, last time a center finished in the top 30 for the habs. plekanec was so underated.

What would Faulk cost? Would the Chiarot trade from last year be a good comparable?

No idea what makes you think that. He has been the team's most consistently reliable D-man for over two seasons now.

Well I doubt the blues are going to do a full rebuild at this point. Faulk is also one of the last people we would trade on our team because we have 0 right side depth. We are more likely to keep Faulk while we retool than trade him. Also this isn't a very good offer for Faulk tbh. We already have plenty players like Widemen, and Dadanov is a cap dump. The first is the only good thing and I don't think it's enough for us to trade Faulk. Thus it doesn't really improve our team now or in the future. I think we can trade other players on the team that will get us better futures, ie ROR, Tarasenko, Barbashev.

Not for that garbage Faulk isn't gettable, There's no way Faulk is waiving for the likes of Montreal. He's not waiving for a Non-Playoff team heading for a full rebuild here.

So I thinking "in context of the situation where the Blues decide to sell" because they are bottom 5 in the league right now so keeping Tarasenko & ROR as "own rentals" seems unlikely and in the context where those guys are gone next season, the Team may be going for a bit of a youth movement.

Who cares, The playoffs are still 68 games away give or take. When all is said and done Montreal is out of the playoffs and the Blues will be in the playoffs.

FYI the Habs are currently 5th in the Atlantic, So they're not currently a playoff team as of today.

I appreciate the response!

Don't you think if the Blues are re-tooling, they might head for a youth movement and take 1-2 years to get back into the playoff picture? Faulk will be 31 next season and in the context where the Blues do take a year or two to re-tool, he'll be 32-33 when you "really need him".

I doubt you replace Tarasenko and ROR when you trade them and those are not the kind of pieces you add in free agency.

We'll see about the Habs.

I doubt the Blues make the playoffs. ROR just looks "done". The goaltending is suspect. You can't win without quality Center minutes & Goaltending in this league.

Have any evidence to back up your wild claims?

LOL no need to backup my wild claims, Montreal is heading for a rebuild. I grant you that Jake Allen has looked solid so far but i doubt it will continue.

All you've to look is when St Louis won the cup, They were playing as bad then as they're now and came back and won the cup and they were several points out of a playoff spot. Never write off St Louis.

Heh. You are getting waaaaay ahead of yourself here. To pry Faulk out of St. Louis would require an overpay. He's not going anywhere, and certainly not for a weak sauce offer.

I see. Well I'll just keep trying my predictions to what I am seeing on the ice. IMO the Habs are playing much better than the Blues and in a tougher division.
