I would rather have Holl than pick up the remainder of that garbage contract

Holl played his best game of the season last night. He seemed to be skating with purpose for the first time in awhile. Yeah the trade might be fair, but just my IMO the Leafs would prefer to 3.5m in cap space for the next two seasons and the first rounder rather than Savard.

100% agree. If the leafs make a move for a dman with term it will be for an absolutely number 2 D man. Which savard is not

Savard is certainly the type of defenseman Toronto should target at the very least

Maybe you're right, but what to give up and how to it affects the cap, this year in the future Despite all the hatred of Leafs Dmen on CF, the Leafs are 8th in GAA this season. Good to see Holl play well last night, and Liljgren played his first NHL game this season after his hernia operation. He played well too.

Im not exactly sure what you mean by "better" here and who that os "better" do you think you can get for just a 1st and a dump? I sure hope you aren't thinking of someone like Klingberg

I think it really depends on where they see Muzzin going. I think at 3.5M for a few years Savard is a very good deal. He's not an offensive guy but he is very good defensively, plus he's 12th heaviest player in the league. Despite him not being a 6'5 giant he is still quite the deterant on the back end. Being a RHS defenseman that can log 20+ minutes a night id also nice.

While I like Liljegren's progression last year there is absolutely nothing wrong with playing him on the "3rd pair." Tampa did just fine like that with Sergachev and he still played 20+ a night consistently.

From the looks of things I think Muzzin's done or if not done back by Playoffs/next year

So that gives them some options. To me if I want a guy to be with us I want someone who can play with Rielly and have Brodie play second pair with Sandin. This would then allow us to reunite Gio-Liligren who were such a good pairing for us last year.

I think the guy for that is Demelo as he has played a top 4 role before and did very well making Chabot's numbers skyrocket.

Why can't Brodie play with Rielly? They were a very effective pairing last year (also Rielly and Lyubushkin were good too so I imagine Savard would work there as well).

DeMelo is also a decent option too. He's kinda more in line with Severson though. Not as big bodied as Savard but still plays a fairly physical can and reliable defensively.

He can but than the issue comes with the second pair as Liligren isnt 100% ready for that and Holl needs a lesser role

Last year we had

Rielly-Lybushkin
Muzzin-Brodie
Gio-Liligren

And it worked out nicely. I feel if we do the same (substitute Sandin for Muzzin and someone else for Lybushkin and it should equate to similar results)

Thats my point with Savard. Plus he fits both the need of a shutdown dman and a deterrent
