Getting whiplash here with the way these values are bouncing back and forth!
-Huge underpay for Marner. Meier is about 75% of the player and Sturm is a bottom-6 guy that adds minimal value to the package. Meier will also most likely cost you close to $10M AAV next season - his QO is an even $10M, so even a "bargain" extension still probably clocks in around $9M. Add in the fact that Sturm will have 2x$2M left, and guess what? You're paying the same cap hit as Marner for those two. Toronto passes.
-Another rough trade for the Leafs - I'd rather have Sandin than Walker at this point, with the only real advantage to acquiring Walker being his right-handedness. I feel like LA throws you a bone here with a 3rd rounder (as
@OldNYIfan suggested) to even it out. This is a bad trade for the Leafs as-is, though, and even with an added pick I still say LA gets the better end of the deal.
-Here's where the whiplash comes in. While I don't think that Chych is worth a Godfather package, this is a really underwhelming deal - a pair of 1sts in the future, a lower prospect like Kral, and a pending UFA in Holl. Who knows, maybe they take it because no one else offers a pair of 1sts, but I really hate this package and think it's a severe underpay.
-Yet somehow, this is more of an underpay. Engvall is a guy that every TML fan seems ready to run out of town, Malgin is a bottom-6 forward *at best*, Holmberg is a B-tier prospect, and a 6th is nothing when Vancouver sends you back Horvat
AND a 2nd/4th combo? Vancouver's been terrible but Horvat isn't a cap dump - if they make him available at the deadline I can see an Andrew Copp-like return coming for him. This is absolutely terrible value for the Canucks and they decline easily.
