I know it's not going to look like this. Just seeing what it might look like to see the Leafs try to right the ship and go for the Cup.

They wouldn't just blow up the team, they would add guys, maybe move 1 guy of significance (not from the core though) for another. Can't make this many moves though and expect better results. Also, wouldn't be worth it to just save a coach.

Trading Sandin+ for Chychrun would be a desperation move that maybe a GM would do, I don't think that would help though.

If these aren't supposed to just be skeletons then...take it up with your sea buddies in SJ. They got Marner for Hertl+Jost, so in return the Leafs get Horvat for cheap.

I mean I guess San Jose (or any team) would like the idea of a player like Marner on their team in a vacuum. But, with what they are doing/planning, adding 10 million dollars doesn't really make any sense. If Marner is getting traded, it would be a team that has been building a while and wants to make that push. Teams like Detroit, Anaheim, LAK, Buffalo, Ottawa, NJD. I'm not saying he's going to that team specifically (obviously lots of rivals) but those KIND of teams. And there's a few who could fit that category in the coming years too which could maybe include the Sharks. But right now, that would just totally mess up their rebuilding plan.

This is an awful trade for the Sharks. Giving away Timo for no draft picks would be a terrible move. Add the best forwards we have this season on top of Timo all for just Marner (with no draft picks in return), and you have a non-starter. Easy no for San Jose.

Garbage offers for both Chychrun and Horvat wont cut it.

And good luck giving Horvat 7x7 and Meier 8x9 next summer as well.

Walker for Sandin has a whiff of "NOW desperation" -- a faint odor of Martin Erat for Filip Forsberg. At the very least, we'd contribute the better (earlier) of our 2023 third-round draft picks.

Getting whiplash here with the way these values are bouncing back and forth!

-Huge underpay for Marner. Meier is about 75% of the player and Sturm is a bottom-6 guy that adds minimal value to the package. Meier will also most likely cost you close to $10M AAV next season - his QO is an even $10M, so even a "bargain" extension still probably clocks in around $9M. Add in the fact that Sturm will have 2x$2M left, and guess what? You're paying the same cap hit as Marner for those two. Toronto passes.

-Another rough trade for the Leafs - I'd rather have Sandin than Walker at this point, with the only real advantage to acquiring Walker being his right-handedness. I feel like LA throws you a bone here with a 3rd rounder (as @OldNYIfan suggested) to even it out. This is a bad trade for the Leafs as-is, though, and even with an added pick I still say LA gets the better end of the deal.

-Here's where the whiplash comes in. While I don't think that Chych is worth a Godfather package, this is a really underwhelming deal - a pair of 1sts in the future, a lower prospect like Kral, and a pending UFA in Holl. Who knows, maybe they take it because no one else offers a pair of 1sts, but I really hate this package and think it's a severe underpay.

-Yet somehow, this is more of an underpay. Engvall is a guy that every TML fan seems ready to run out of town, Malgin is a bottom-6 forward *at best*, Holmberg is a B-tier prospect, and a 6th is nothing when Vancouver sends you back Horvat AND a 2nd/4th combo? Vancouver's been terrible but Horvat isn't a cap dump - if they make him available at the deadline I can see an Andrew Copp-like return coming for him. This is absolutely terrible value for the Canucks and they decline easily.

Marner is an overpaid flopping baby. Sharks aren’t paying two lineup staples for a guy who they don’t even need during a rebuild. Sturm has been their best forward this year and they just signed him

Yeah, I'd be too embarrassed to post this in one of my ACGM's even with the third. Durzi for Sandin plus, or Spence plus for Sandin, is more reasonable at this point in the season.

Speaking of the two of them, I hope everyone noticed Sandin's two Durzi-like defensive lapses this weekend. His third-period giveaway against the Kings only cost an insurance goal, but his gaffe against the Ducks was rather more consequential. This is just what you have to get used to as a young defenseman is given serious responsibilities. It can be maddening sometimes, but the patience is worth it.
