If the Canucks are going through a 5-year rebuild, they shouldn't trade Demko (unless he wants to be noved) because:

1) He's only 26, so he can be expected to be a solid goalie into his 30s. So, they will have a goalie when they want to compete.
2) Allows for any goalie prospect in the system or to be drafted, to develop without being rushed. Goalies can easily need 5 years to develop.
3) He can be traded later if and when Martin breaks out.
4) They may decide to do a 5-year rebuild but it's probably not going to be a full teardown rebuild with guys like Pettersen and Hughes being traded. So, perhaps they find themselves in the playoffs in year 2 or 3 of the "rebuild".

3 trades that they should make, that they probably could is trading away Horvat (as suggested), Myers, and Garland. Then they should trade for Bear if the cost is reasonable (give him an opportunity in a low risk environment).

In year 2 or 3 (assuming year 1 is this year) Brock Boeser is a guy they should consider moving out, depending on what the market for him is like.

Teams aren’t champing at the bit to take on a guy that’s signed at big money until he’s 38.
A rental doesn’t get Newhook and a first.
Don’t even know what to tell you about that toronto thing.

Leafs aren't giving up an almost NHL read prospect for a goalie that is struggling

That statement you just made, right there….very reasonable. No issues with that. While I think the leafs reject this deal, if they could get Demko, and ditch Murray, i don’t think Knies is going to be off the table in that scenario.
“Knies is untouchable,” is as dumb as it gets.

Knies will be playing for the Leafs this season right before the playoffs, we need players on their ELC

Sheesh, did no one in toronto learn their lesson with Jeremy bracco? I bet you were a big fan of his, weren’t you?

Crystal ball over there? Can you tell me what the lottery numbers are this week?

You don’t know that. You don’t know if he’s good enough, or if he’ll leave college. Guys the size of knies often times can bully their way through NCAA with physical attributes. That doesn’t work in the NHL, and you’re not going to know anything definitive about knies until he starts playing pro hockey.

If hes untouchable, the leafs organization is pathetic.

The funny thing is that teams are calling in on Knies for every trade that is involved with the Leafs. Knies is expected to play for us

You sure that doesn't work in the NHL?

You’re literally making my point for me. He’s more physically mature than most of the NCAA players. That won’t be the case in the NHL. There have been a lot of guys like that in the NCAA that didn’t make the transition smoothly. He’s nowhere near the caliber of untouchable.

He's only 6'3" 210 pounds as a 19 year old and is throwing these type of hits. When he turns 21, is 6'4 or 6'5 and is over 230 pounds, lets see how players do against him

The Avs is the only one of the 3 that would have a chance of being accepted. But they don’t. The other 2 have no chance at all.

Bruins should seriously consider that deal, maybe if you replace Forbort with Reilly. Same with Toronto

Also, Newhook has no points in six games

Boston is not trading Lysell for JT.

Re-signing Pasta/Zacha/Sway/Freddy/McLaughlin/Lauko will cost 20-25m. Fill out the roster with kids. Add this trade in. They are at close to 90m in cap. Still have bonus overages to account for. And still holding out hope Bergy/DK want to come back again. Rough. 🤷🏻‍♂️

McLaughlin and Lauko won't cost anything to keep, and Frederic won't break the bank either. Zacha might be expensive since he's a UFA, and Swayman will at most, get what Spencer Knight received. Dunno if Bergeron and Krejci want to come back for yet ANOTHER season

Those first 3 will come in collectively at 3-4m. Pasta/Zacha/Sway will come in at 18-21 collectively.

The math is correct. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And that does not include Clifton who has become important

Shouldn't cost more than 18M against the cap to keep all of Pasta, Zacha, and Swayman honestly. Over 20 million committed annually to those three sounds like bad cap management to me. The other guys can be head for as little as 2.5M collectively
