Kane is gonna cost you more. If Kakko gets off to a slow start you can add him and Hajek to complete the deal at 50% retained. ARI will retain another 25% for a 3rd. You might get away with Othmann and either Miller or Jones instead of Kakko and Hajek. (with Kravtsov and the picks). Either way that's a good investment, as Kane would most likely be willing to sign a team friendly deal after the season.

I may be in the minority here- I mean, so many are already literally clearing a locker for Kane at MSG, as if it's inevitable- but giving up all those assets (and Dutchie probably right it will take more) to acquire a guy for 1 shot at the Cup...a player who they have no realistic shot of extending- is just piss poor asset management. Even with Kane on the roster, hockey is so random that nothing is guaranteed here- except losing a boatload of premium assets.

Much better management would be to utilize Kakko and LaF in the top 6 if Krav doesn't cut it there when he comes back....then come trade deadline supplement the lineup with a bottom six player who is going UFA next summer- cost would be significantly cheaper. The only way I'd part with either of their 2 first rounders next year is if they are bringing back a player under contract at least 1 more year- and this probably wont happen for a bunch of CAP related reasons.

Might be worth doing if New York's window was closing and this was their final shot at making a run, but the Rangers' window is just opening. They're going to have plenty of shots at the Cup over the next decade. Doesn't make sense to throw all that away for a rental.

Im not sure how the rangers have this supposed long window. Once Igor’s contract is up, theyre gonna have to pay him 10mm+/yr. Miller is gonna need a raise. Laffy. Kakko, if he turns into what we need him to be will be a 5mn/yr player atleast. Point being, once Igor’s contract is up, they’re gonna lose a couple good pieces to fit his next deal under the cap to go with the other kids we have. The window is just opening, but this team is gonna look ALOT different in 3 years, once his deal expires

Its why spending all that money on trocheck happened. The FO knows the window is the next 3 years. Then they have to retool. And that doesnt always work out.

No doubt the team will look different in 3 years....this is the reason NOT to go all in on Kane. But with players like Othmann, Korczak, Cuyle, Robertson, and Sykora (among others) waiting in the wings...and 2 1st round picks in 2023...not to mention further development of guys like KAM, LaF, Chytl, Krav, Kakko, Jones, etc., there is a lot to look forward to. But cashing your chips on a 1 shot chance to win the Cup is a fools errand.
