Thats an awful trade for yanni imo. Just give up on Chytil after his playoff run? Its time to give these guys a shot, maybe we take a step back before we go all out in 23-24. I dont know, but i dont think Gourdi is the diff. Maker that gets us over the top. Kakko Fil and Laffy playing to their full potential does that, and no one else. And Faksa is a 200 foot player, big body, wins 55% of his face offs/plays great d and can play SH. And he’s in comparison. And we have him for 3 years. Right when the cap is supposed to explode. Perfect timing. If we need more scoring(how much do you honestl think with Shesty in net?) we go after it at the deadline with Nils the 23 1 or Kravtsov. Or Othemann. We have a lot of guys that are trade pieces still. Not just draft picks. We can fill the roster at the deadline again

Not sure what else they can do with the small amount of money they have. Its not a bottom 6 that will score much, but they’ll open things up for the top 6. A heavy 3rd line like that would punish other teams come playoff time. Also, Gustav wasnt a bad signing. Im not sure how much you know about the guy, but doubt he left more money to come to NY unless he was told he would have a good shot at making the roster. He’s another big body who will win face-offs and play good d. If we need more scoring, we have the deadline to address those needs. But when you have the best goalie in the world, scoring 4 goals a game isnt needed. The top 6 will score plenty with the defense and goalie we’ll have. And this team,imo, is built for the playoffs.

Also, that 4th line is garbage. 3rd isnt very good either, but when youre paying 47 million to the top 6 forward, what else can you do i guess. Its just really hard to win in the playoffs if you cant roll at least 3 lines. Unless you have McDavid and Drias. Although Matthew’s and Marner are about as close to that pair as there in the league. The Giordano contract is such a steal. And absolutely needed when youre paying 3 guys 11-12 million, especially after the 2 years of flat cap and only $1MM raise coming up. The league needs to do something, or teams that have building or rebuilding are gonna get picked clean. The Avs will lose a lot of talent. Toronto cant get any depth. Florida will have trouble repeating last season. Teams went through a lot of losing to build these teams, to not even have a proper window to win, doesnt seem fair. Maybe they can make an exception, or allow to cut one player next season, without it effecting the cap.Those players will find jobs, maybe even reclaim there careers because they’ll get top line minutes again. The Rangers are another team that’ll get hurt due to the cap. They’ve already had to dump a mid-20 year old first line winger, who plays a 200 foot game, in Buchenevich. Now they’ll lose Strome and most likely Copp for nothing after the season. They might even lose out on Kakko is he gets an offer sheet for anything more than 4 million. Just nonsense. They get a 2nd overall pick and cant keep him more than 3 years due to an outside force, and the league does nothing. Bettman is really awful. You would think he would want teams in huge markets like NY and Toronto to to have a longer window to win, especially in a league where continuity on a roster is usually the best route to winning cups

Hopefully. My thought is that other teams know we cant afford to tender him and have to cut him, so they dont have to give fair value. Unless we can get some type of bidding war, which would be tough considering he’s sort of a reclamation project due to his inconsistency this season. He probably should have been traded before Shesty came up, when they tried the 3 goalies nonsense. That was his highest value.

Yeah, long term, Drury would have some extremely tough calls to make. The flat cap really hurt the rebuild. Cap wouldve been closer to $90 million this offseason rather than $82.5. Maybe we forgo signing Coppe and keep someone like Rooney to play the bottom line. And if Motte is too expensive, they could try and replace him with a different player. The issue isnt that the Rangers have bad contracts, its that theyre overpaying a couple guys by a million or two, coupled with the flat cap. Cant pay a guy like Goody 3.6 when the cap is only being raised 1 million and was flat for the past 2. Drury is gonna have to really prove his worth.
