Description
0.5) PoHoJR and GMPA bite the bullet and buyout Tucker Poolman. in later years, it's basically a rounding error at less than $1M. Sorry, Tucker. You seem like a good guy, but you were overpaid and overextended on term by a management team that had zero clue. Not your fault, but this is a business. Hope your migraines resolve.

1.) CAR follows in the footsteps of TBL, VGK. Yes, they signed Paul Stastny. Solid player. Good journeyman. I see an opportunity for JT to skate on the 2nd line as constructed, either at the wing or centre. This is good thing for CAR - it pushes depth players down the lineup which makes CAR stronger especially come playoff time when they can miraculously revive the corpse of Pacioretty.

I've heard all the arguments about why Morrow is untouchable. Believe me. This is a fair offer for a team that wants to win *now*. He can still develop at school and then potentially join the Canucks in '23-24.

2. Dermott can go to WPG for a 3rd round pick. He's not sexy, but he is redundant here. He can help WPG next season and they have a cost controlled asset to use in trade or to resign.

3. DiPietro is going somewhere for futures. It's obvious the Canucks have judged him as surpassed by Silovs and the signing of Delia. He needs a fresh start. I said CHI, but it could be anywhere.

4. Figure the Kings can't match a $3M offer sheet for Durzi. Sucks for them to lose him, but if a team can afford to lose RHD, its the LAK.

Canes have cap space to resign him. If they invested limited assets in Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty, and paid on promise for a 3rd line Centre in Kotkaniemi, they likely would invest in a PPG player like JT Miller.

They don’t give 30yr olds max extensions.

    They don’t pay rental prices.

Move along, zero chance they trade that much for Miller

In the future if you feel the need to have to explain an obvious overpayment to another team’s fan base, that’s probably a tell that you’re way off.

The situations aren’t alike. They don’t pay guys long term deals entering their 30s. They stick to their guns and let those guys walk or trade them - Dougie, Nino, Troch, etc.

Return might be fair but the canes are probably the least likely team to pay that price for JT rental Miller. You can keep giving your rationale till you’re blue in the face - not going to change how the management team has historically operated and continues to operate this season. Also don’t get how you take what they did with Burns and Patches this offseason, or what they did with KK who is in his early 20s and compare that to what they’d have to do with somebody like Miller. The situations couldn’t be further from each other and are literally showing you how the team does business which is opposite of your rationale.

Quite frankly teams shouldn’t be giving 6+ year contracts to players over 30

    Yep.

I’d be hesitant to give 5yrs to a 30yr old. The Canes have recently been burned by giving Gardiner 4yrs. It’d have to be a very special player on the wrong side of 30 for the Canes to consider an 7-8yr extension. Miller just ain’t it.

But teams do. And will continue to do so. Because the player a.) performs and b.) can likely be buried on LTIR like so many others have done before when they outlive their usefulness.

Jeez. I agree this is a young players game, but the way people write about JT Miller, it seems like the Canucks should just take him behind the shed and treat him like Old Yeller.

Might have better luck with that than extracting the delusional values Canucks’ fans place on 1yr of his services

Just because they have the capability, doesn’t mean they will act on it. Especially with something that would be as stupid as this move.

Chicago doesn't need a goalie. They have enough in NHL/AHL.

Personally I don't like the value for Vancouver, and I think the majority of Canuck fans on here overvalue Miller. Canes fans will tell you Morrow is the next Makar but in reality he's a B+ prospect. B+ prospect, late 1st and Bear don't quite do it for me.
