Just my guess. Lou found out the enormous price to trade/dump contracts, Bailey, and passed, No chance he trades a 2nd for Monahan. I think it will be shocking how much Calgary has to give up to trade Monahan. Big picture Monahan, a 1st and something good is probably a decent trade for Kadri. The last few years may be rough.

Okay, well now you've gone too far in the other direction. A 1st should be the absolute limit for what it would cost, and frankly even that's too much, as Monahan is still useful. He's not a pure cap dump, just highly overpaid.
