I don't think there's any reason for JVR to be dumped now, probably stays on the team until the deadline

Both picks are top 15 protected and you have a maybe (still no probably, habs won't sacrifice any sort of future for PLD)

I don't think they do... I am a Leafs fan by the way.

Montreal getting Dubois at 8 x 8 really solidifies their forward group for a long time. They still need to improve their dcorp. But they have 4 billion promising d prospects, so they are probably set there also.

Getting Wheeler half retained + dumping JVR might not be a bad call. Wheeler at that price is really good value.

Although I don't believe in almost anything Philly is doing. I think they should be sellers as well.

Those trades are utterly and completely atrocious for Philly, Calgary and Montreal. Like, unless those are lottery protected (and convert to 2nds if they're in the lottery), there's not chance any of those are close to possible.

The Scheifele and Montreal trades are horrible for Winnipeg.

A first to take back a cap dump and a low end defenseman they don't need for a Scheifele. Awful.

With Winnipeg having to take back two cap dumps and give up Dubois, two firsts aren't enough. You're vastly overrating the value of the picks.

Or they use their likely top 5 pick to draft one of the half dozen large centres in the upcoming draft that project better than PLD does and dont spend money and assets on a centre who struggles in many aspects of being a centre

I would normally say you are right... But look at the trade values from this summer for really good forwards. They are drastically lower than usual.

5 first rounders next year + a lot of cap space moving forward + some good young prospects. By all account Dubois doesn't want to be there. Scheifele and Wheeler are great players but they can't defend to save their lives.

Hence me selling them.

Yeah, but the Jets aren't rebuilding. The firsts are nice, but selling good players at a huge discount and taking back piles of crud to get those picks isn't smart asset management or a good team building strategy.

This is the kind of stuff Arizona does, not teams that are trying to win.

Hence the title of my AGM is "What I would Do" - Which I would sell based on the roster and their current situation.

At least go for a retool.

Disagree
It commit's us to a inconsistent 60 pt player at best who's just as inconsistent in the playoffs.
Suzuki put MTL on his back and carried them to two straight playoffs as the top player undisputed.
PLD couldnt handle that at all and i dont see why we pay him more for being big and taking lots of penalties.

He's great for Non Playoff teams as this Generations Martin Hanzal basically
He's still got time to find his consistency to take back his Top Center Role
But the fact of the matter is PLD is a REALLY good 2nd line Center worth maybe 6.5m in my books
Even that's hard to justify it as he's just a 2nd Line version of Dvorak who's a solid 3rd line Center especially under MSL

MTL has option
Will Karlsson rumor is VGK are desperatly trying to move
they're 2m over cap with only 16/23 players signed
They gave away Pacioretty for nothing after posting nearly a Point Per Game even tossing in a prospect

There's a lot of teams trying to give away players right now
Besides if its me im going after LAK they got like 4-5m to sign Anderson,Durzi and Vlardi
Vlardi to me is much more interesting as his big issue or set back has been Season Opening Injuries
Something tells me he's the type of guy who to be effective cant take time off.

Suzuki is that way using only 3 weeks of his Summer for Vacation and the rest he's training at the London Knights facilities.
He's done so for years giving back to Junior hockey program while having access to top Training Facilities outside the NHL System in Canada
He's a Work Horse who's driven and Focused.

I bring all that up as i think Vlardi will benefit greatly from playing inbetween Suzuki/Dvorak as Athletically they're Freaks who love to train.
I just see as much upside to him with a Low cap as i do with PLD and his high cap
Even with players we love giving them a high cap always sours

I suspect the draw of having two boys from Ste-Agathe-des-Monts in the lineup would tempt the Habs to hold on to Drouin for another year. But I don't imagine finding a workaround for Drouin in this deal would be that difficult. Anderson would be a better acquisition for the Jets anyway. The Habs would presumably then move Dach into Anderson's RW slot.
