DeBrincat Trade From The Athletic

Description
Ian Mendes (Sens beat writer) and Scott Powers (Hawks beat writer) wrote an article today exploring the idea of trading DeBrincat to Ottawa. The conclusion was (unsurprisingly) that Ottawa would very much like a 24yo 2-time 40 goal winger and that Chicago is probably leaning towards a full tear down at this point due to having no prospect pipeline, no playoff hopes, and no 1st round pick (all thanks to Stan Bowman). Anyway this is the deal they came up with. I really like Greig and JBD (JBD is slightly more expendable because we have Thomson, but I hate giving up Greig) and think the Hawks will be getting 3 good NHLers out of this (7oa should be a top 6 winger, Greig will probably be a middle six centre or could get shifted to the wing, and JBD still projects as a 2nd pair RD). But I’d still take it as the Sens.

Agreed. I feel like there were a few of us that had it as a top 10-15 protected 2023 1st around here last week, but it seemed reasonably popular (which is rare here tears of joy )

Hawks should walk from that offer. They should be willing to take on Murray's cap dump without any retention, but remove JBD and include Pinto

I don’t think they will include both Pinto and Greig. To me it’s like :
Formenton/Joseph , JBD/Thomson , Pinto/Greig. They will never trade 2 of them guys in the same tier

Depends what they think about their centers. If they view Stutzle as a C and Norris is locked then it makes sense. Keeping Pinto and Greig around for a 3C role doesn't make a ton of sense since 3C is a much easier position to fill then top 6 C. If they view Greig, Pinto or Stutzle as a winger then I get it but having 4 young prospects players who are top 6 Cs gives the perfect reason to move at least 1 if not 2 to turn a different position of current weakness into a strength.

Something we might not see coming, is a trade involving Cat for Norris and some other pieces with Ottawa keeping Pinto, Greig and obviously Stutzle.

If they trade both, we have no 3C. White isn’t good enough

Just let the hawks fan believe what he wants. He is very Biased towards the hawks and sees debrincats value above McDavids. LOL

Sounds like Sens and Devils are battling for Fiala rn. Whoever loses will probably go after Debrincat

This is why I tell others, especially Devils fans right now. That Guerin absolutely has leverage in negotiations. The market may be saturated with wingers right now. But if the choice is to either overpay in UFA for a player who is, yes, better... but is also older and will cost more in AAV to sign. Or trade for someone who is younger or older, will cost more to acquire, and will cost more to resign in just a years time. You go after Fiala first.

Fiala remains the #1 trade target in the league because of his age, cost to acquire, and cost to resign vs everyone else. Including trade targets and UFA's. All of this heavily plays into Guerin's favor.

It’ll be a Middle ground imo. A deal hopefully both teams like . Marco Kasper or Cutter Gauthier could be great fits for Minny

For sure. And I really like Kasper, although I'm not all that interested in CG. But if we do manage to snag 7th overall I 100% want us to go after Savoie. If possible.

Hopefully Kasper would still be sitting there for us at 24th OVA and we could walk away with both Savoie and Kasper from the 1st round. But that's wishful thinking on my part, I don't see Kasper dropping that far.

Strong chance Savoie will be available at 7 . Kemell could too. Gauthier could, Kasper could. Only 1 of them will be taken before 7

I typically see Kasper going in the mid teens, where have you seen that he has a chance to go in the top ten? It's typically Nazar that I see that has that potential.

He’s been rising up a lot of draft boards recently thanks to a good world championships, and also one of the few players with speed, skill, and size that projects as an NHL centre (also the reason Gauthier has entered the consensus top 6). He’s a popular choice to Detroit at 8 in mock drafts, I’ve seen him to Ottawa at 7 too, and not lower than Winnipeg at 14 (by Scott Wheeler, who is much lower on him than most, and picked him after Geekie in that mock which I don’t think will happen in real life) in a while. Pronman has him ranked at 9 and has mock drafted him at 8 twice (and Bultman mocked him there too). An NHL source the Athletic worked with took him at 7 in a mock. Bob McKenzie has him ranked at 10.

Both missed out.

Cat won't be cheap. Will come down to what the teams are prepared to put on the table. IMO NJD could give us a better package if they choose but OTT can still offer a strong package. Im not convinced by the Athletic articles price either.
