Description
Guessing the cost for the list of UFAs/available RFAs in the Athletic’s article - signing them all at a bargain price would still require subtracting Nylander and Holl, and of course Mrazek

You’re not getting both Fleury/Husso, especially at that price.

Was the article suggesting signing them all?

Even if you went with those values for signings, you could just subtract mamin, Kerfoot, and Rodrigues for Nylander and Robertson, and probably keep Engvall over a ufa if he is signing for a similar amount.

Braun should be coming in as the 7th D so perhaps they pay him closer to 1m, and some of that would go to more money for Husso at least 3.5m if not in the low 4s. You probably then don't want Fleury (likely only signs for a year regardless of amount or location, save Pittsburgh) unless he is taking a discount that puts him in the 2s.

Kubalik at 2.5 would have to be a one or two year contract. Also, can't be signing all these role pieces to 2 years, the bottom 6 ufas who are older can probably be signed for a year at those values. If helm were to take 1m then two years.

The roster make up would then look like
Line 2: Kubalik-Tavares-Nylander
Line 3: Engvall(Wood) -Kampf- Robertson (could swap for Kuba)
Line 4: Wood (Cogliano) - Helm - Auston-Reese

Sandin in the top 6 somewhere

Maxim Mamin just signed with the KHL, Moscow Dynamo So he's not an option.

Zero chance that you're getting both MAF/Husso that cheaply

Sabres aren't doing that for a 4th especially in 2yrs. Maybe since Columbus is giving you there 1st, you keep the 4th and give Buffalo your 1st this year

You really think a 115pt regular season club brings in 10 new players into the starting lineup?

Columbus says no. No room for wings (no, not even Nylander), no interest in scraps, and they simply need the pick more.

Personally I would definitely take Nylander for #12.

I would want to talk to him and see if he has interest in playing here, though. If he plans on leaving at the end of his contract then I wouldn't do it. We can spend high quality assets for people who won't be with our team for a long time.

No, i was just looking to see what kind of lineup that could build and at what cost. It’s not realistic, and to fill all these spots required me to use unrealistically low cap hits for a few of the new signings, but then 98% of the ACGM posts i have seen aren’t realistic either

Fair enough argument, but Columbus needs offence probably most in the league. Your top point getter last season - 62 points?

Could be. I haven’t looked at it closely, but i thought Buffalo could resign or replace all of their UFAs and still be short of the cap floor. Assuming they don’t add any high cost free agents at this point, as they have such a talented young roster. They are going to be quite the team in 2-3 years.

I think the cost of buying out Mrazek is less painful to the Leafs than giving up a first. Someone pointed out one of the UFAs on this list has already signed with the KHL, so for this years cap hit for the buyout, the Leafs could just spend most of the season with one less healthy scratch in the lineup.

They were 14th in goals for despite losing both Laine and Jenner who were on pace for over 30 goals, Voracek and Werenski having career worsts in shooting percentage, Boqvist missing half the season and losing a ridiculous amount of goals to offside reviews. They also have Johnson, Sillinger, Texier, Marchenko and Chinakhov coming up who all project to be high scoring talent. They are nowhere near the team that needs offensive help the most in the league.

Yeah, i think there’s about four of five of these salary figures i used which are a bit low. Of course, an alternate in net could be Campbell for $5M and anyone else they could get for $1M.

Great suggestions. The article was just a list of top ten free agent targets, but i turned this ACGM into a “what if they signed them all.” I think seven of the top ten were forwards, and even with my unrealistically low estimates for UFA salaries, it requires Holl and Nylander to go, and doesn’t leave salary cap room for Engval and Kase. But those three subtractions means there are seven forward positions to fill.
Your alternate scenario also gives a good look at what signing most of those UFAs in the bottom six looks like, and even better if it allows more salary cap to be spent on goal.

Take a look at games played for the top point scorers. We were actually in the top half of the League in goals for this year. #2 among teams that missed the playoffs (behind only Vegas).

Yeah, for skaters in their twenties, your guys do miss a lot of games during the season. Maybe instead of a better winger, the Blue Jackets should get a better physio.

Also a very unusual profile of where your scoring comes from . Above average from the bottom six, and lots of points from the D.
