Description
I hate to do it as I think he can be such a valuable player for Ottawa. But if he's not signing an extension then we need to ship him. And he'll fetch a 1st rounder. Make the deal now and flip the 1st rounder for Debrincat.

So I’ve seen this idea that somehow Brown is super valuable (if a 1st comes back, that’s valuable). Since when does a 28 yo a year from UFA who is essentially a .5 ppg mid 6 winger bring back anything like that? Arvidsson (who is objectively better and on a baller contract) brought back a 2nd and 3rd….

Ardvisson was hurt or he would’ve fetched more. Plus the expansion draft gave Nashville little to no leverage.

Brown is a really solid player. It’s not hard for me to imagine that he fetches a first at the deadline.

Fair, but what is the comp here? TDL deals tend to overpay, so when has a .5 ppg mid 6 wing brought back a 1st in the off-season? That’s my fundamental question.

I don’t c the first/second combo sens fans see. But it’s pretty easy for me to envision he fetches a first like Palmieri did or how Copp eventually did.

He plays in all 3 zones and can move up and down ur lineup. Worst case he fetches a conditional first.

I would much rather sign Connor Brown to an extension than trade him for a late 1st round pick. But it seems that he wants to test free agency, which is his right. I remember when the Sens traded for Zaitsev and Brown was the sweetener. I didn't think much of him when I heard the news. Having seen him play for a few years now, he can most definitely fetch a late first rounder. To be honest, Brown brings an element that an Arvidsson cannot. He is a Zack Hyman type that any team would love to have. The majority of his shifts are in the defensive zone, and he is a quintessential two-way forward.

It might not be the Oilers, but Brown will fetch a 1st rounder in my opinion.

He’s that guy u acquire to be ur 3rd line RW on a cup contender. Think Coleman or Goodrow or even Paul. I c what ur saying in terms of value, but I think everyone knows how effective Brown can be when teams didn’t necessarily feel that way about Paul or Goodrow or Coleman.

TDL and off-season are different markets. But even then that’s a stretch. Hall and Rakell brought back 2nds.

Rackell is injury prone and Hall looked washed at the deadline tbh. He did end up losing to Kyle Palmieri’s Islanders lmao.

Sens shouldn’t make this deal cause of all the salary they have to take back. They would be better off rostering JBD or Thomson than acquiring Barrie imo.

Coleman and Goodrow had multiple years on their deals a a mil less AAV and were 2 years younger. And Paul brought back a young bottom 6 guy and a 4th. These are not great comps for Brown.

I meant in terms of impact not return. Coleman and Goodrow had multiple years left, but idk that people thought as highly of them back thenas people do of brown.

He’s an analytical darling on a bad team who gets ****ty zone starts. He should get a first.

Also Joseph is probably more of a middle six guy than a bottom six guy, but that’s splitting hairs.

I don't mind that EDM trade that much. Reading some reports, Lassi looks to be a bit of a project, but with saying that, Oil could put him down in Bako with solid D guys to surround himself with for development. I wonder if instead of the third rounder back to EDM, you could send over Lightnings second round pic and the Oil add on another 3rd or 4th round pick they'd have to find. I do like what I have been hearing of brown... Haven't watched many videos of him to get full perspective

I don't think the Hawks accept this. The #7OA this year isn't too valuable given the weak draft year, and the 2023 pick with this roster is likely to be around the #10 as the arrow is pointing up for Ottawa. I'm also not that high on Pinto, while a good prospect, I don't think personally he's going to be a franchise level player which I'm pretty sure is the kind of prospect the Hawks are going to be looking for.

Might be. Not sure. But they play similar games/bring similar qualities to a team. As I stated earlier, my preference would be to re-sign him as he's such a versatile player. He will sign a new deal that is similar, perhaps slightly less, than Hyman did. I think a $5 mil x 5 year is not out of the question for him.

The salary is quite short term and they can absorb it easily. Even with the salary they take back, they have $11 mil in cap space this year, and over $30 next year. This is a luxury they won't have in a couple of years, but can do it now.

I think Lassi is NHL ready and should fight for a spot next year. He'll be a solid NHL right-handed defenceman. I'm sure the draft picks can be shifted around. It's more the overall structure of the deal. I don't know if the Oilers would want to ship out Kassian and/or Barrie to free up some cash.

I would be quite happy with this from the Oil perspective, the cap and positional aspects of it are what the Oil need. Brown could be a support winger with either McD or Drai and probably do just fine.

But Edmonton likely wouldn't. It's an easy contract to absorb for two years for the Sens and they get a bottom 6 RW. Watson will be gone next year, and Kassian provides some additional toughness.
