Yeah no. Zucker is a good player when healthy. I will take the risk of his health for one year before giving up our first.

And if the team decides not to take that risk a buyout makes much more sense

Yes because we are absolutely going to give up our first to dump Zucker. Nice logic here, Hextall probably probably picks up the phone and blocks the number.

Lol, how do you propose they handle their cap situation?

The Islanders gave up two 2nd round picks to move Andrew Ladd’s contract and Toronto gave up a 1st to move Marleau’s final year of his deal in a less dire situation.

Nice try, but sorry, you couldn't buyout Zuck or Luch until after next trade deadline...as per the official rules - A buyout can only be performed on a player who was on the clubs reserve list at 3:00pm on the most recent trade deadline.

Marleau isn't remotely comparable. He refused to play for any team but Toronto or San Jose so the only way he was waiving was to be bought out immediately. And since he was over 35 the full cap hit of the buyout would effect them immediately.

Ladd didn't even play in the NHL and had multiple years left on his deal

Calgary only needs to move 1 of Monahan or Lucic, not both. It will cost like a 2nd to move Lucic, same as Stralman and Staal. Monahan won't cost assets move. Your ask for a top 5 goalie prospect in the world is already loony

I honestly have no clue. But considering he is a good player when healthy and it is only a 1 year commitment I would say a mid round pick. And I would be all over that if I was the gm of a rebuilding team with cap space. Put him in the top 6 and let him produce, then sell him at TDL at 50% retained

Yeah no thanks, Detroit isn't going to spend close to the cap with a bunch of worthless cap dumps. We're trying to get better not help teams out of their cap ruts.

Relax man, the kids good but he’s not Jonathan Quick just yet.

Anyways, I’m gonna enjoy watching what actually unfolds with Lucic & Monahan. I don’t think either of them is on the roster if Calgary hopes to keep all three of Tkachuk, Gaudreau & Mangiapane. Ain’t happenin.

Yeah, I mean I guess I could see a 3rd. He’s a good player but, he’s struggled to stay healthy. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him. I don’t see him on the Pens when the season starts.

I hope Hextall is aggressive and makes a cap dump or two. If he truly wants to compete as he says it would be smart bringing in another star in addition to Malkin and Letang. Filip forsberg and it Johnny Gaudreau don’t seem too bad smile

I could see a big deal for the Pens acquiring some more star power after bringing back Malkin & Letang but, I doubt it’ll be for one of the top names. I could see a trade though, I’d really like to see Chychrun over there.

Wolf has the best numbers in his D+3 rookie season since Saros and Hellebuyck, probably ranked #2 or 3 at lowest right now among goalie prospects

Why wouldnt it? One will be moved but they certainly dont need to move both to make the cap work

    Three questions:
•out of curiosity are you a wings fan?
•do you know if chychrun is just as effective at RD as LD?
•most importantly, what would your chychrun —> Pitt trade look like?

Man I would love to see him there, but it would mean emptying our prospect pool

I am a red wings fan, yes.

I tend to view most defenseman as interchangeable unless there is a glaring weakness that prevents them from doing so. Chychrun could probably play either side although, he is Left Handed so it’s more of natural fit as LD I suppose.

The penguins don’t seem to have much by way of assets, so I think it would be pretty steep in terms of picks going to Arizona. I could also see somewhat of a bidding war for Chychrun, so this is what I would expect from a PIT/ARZ deal if they were able to pull it off:

Jakob Chychrun to Pens for Pierre Oilivier-Joseph, Marcus Pettersson + 2022 1st round pick + 2023 1st OR 2nd round pick. I could also see the second draft pick being conditional based on team performance.

Markstrom is over 30, it's no different from when Saros came into the league behind Rinne.

I really dont think it will be a hard offseason at all
