Yes, NJ is likely interested in Fiala. Not for #2 overall, at least not straight 1 for 1.

This was before they won the draft lottery. The quote for Fitz was their first rounder was in play. They assumed it would be out of the top 5.

Is there any quotes on this from articles or beat writers? I get it wouldn't be a straight up trade and Minnesota would add, but it seems like he went from, it's in play to not at all. I've seen articles on him saying it's in play for the right return before getting no 2 overall, but nothing since then.

I would have to dig it up but Elliotte Friedman reported it a few times that the Devils were going to move their pick mentioning Fiala in the 32 thoughts blog and podcast and after the won the lottery he stated they didn't expect to win and now are still weighing all options but the calculus has changed.

Minnesota would need to add another equality piece or a blue chip. NJ isn’t moving 2OA for Fiala straight up, when they could get can get some at least solid ELC production from it instead.

#2 is still "in play", just the price has gone up since winning the lottery. Seravalli has it on his trade bait board and insiders have reported that Fitz is willing to move it for the right piece.

I'm curious to know if fans would do No 2 and a prospect for Fiala and our 1st rounder. I think the Wild need to add, but if we swap first rounders I think the Devils need to add a "low level" prospect or something of value. Would fans agree that the Devils may need a small add?

I don't think Fitz would be all that interested in the 1st coming back if he were to trade #2. Seem a bit counterintuitive to think we're ready to compete so much that we'd trade 2nd ovl, but also look to receive a late first in the trade. If it was Wallstedt, that'd maybe be a different story. I personally think that Fitz should just keep the pick. Slafkovský might be a bit late to the party, but he's a great fit for the Devils.
