Weaponizing the cap

Créé par: Jah1722

Description
VGK trade: VGK give Roy to take Dadonov (they want to re-sign Smith) and get back cheap depth with minimal value.

TOR trade: Dadonov at 2.5M has some solid value. Sandin’s NHL spot is in question so he gets moved with cap for a good player and a decent backup. Dadonov would allow Kerfoot to move to the 3rd line with Kampf and Ilya/Engvall/Kase to get that high end 3rd line teams want in the playoffs.

PHI trade: If PHI signs Johnny G they’ll have to open up some cap space. Ducks give some value for Konecny but not full value for taking most of JVR cap. *If PHI doesn’t sign Johnny then ducks could play Perreault and sign a depth guy for insurance.

Ducks will have ~30M to re-sign Zegras, Terry, and Drysdale plus fill out the roster. There will also be a few prospects that could be ready to make the full time jump one 23-24.

I don't think that we get Konecny that easily, but this sure is a really great strategy.

He was reportedly talked about all last offseason and I think the 11M in cap space has decent value to PHI should they sign Johnny G.

So valuable they signed Gio to a 2 year deal and block his lineup spot.

So good he couldn’t get into the lineup in the playoffs. It’s all related. That’s how roster construction works. But if not Sandin then swap in Liljegren.

Sure does, but TK will be moved for a mid first and good prospect minimum

So you give up a 2nd for a backup goalie but balk at adding a 20 goal guy making 2.5M while dumping cap because the young 7th D is involved?

5.5M to make it a mid 2nd and a young NHLer instead of a prospect.

Sandin was injured. Pay attention.
Liljegren is more valuable than sandin both play wise and positionally. You're going in the wrong direction

He was injured heading into the playoffs... Why would you put in a guy who hasn't played in a month mid-series when the players in the lineup were doing great?

I know that’s why Sandin is in the trade and not Liljegren. Also Sandin got healthy and still didn’t get into a game. And then TOR signed Gio to a 2 year extension. So now Sandin is blocked on the depth chart.

TOR fans are acting like I’ve done some lame Comtois trade with Sandin. It’s a 2.5M 20g scorer and a very cheap solid back up goalie for Sandin and cap. Now TOR can build the 3rd line needed for postseason depth.

They didn’t make it out of the first round. How well were they playing that Sandin, who has been “fantastic”, couldn’t get in the line up and that they signed Gio for 2 years?

You can weaponize cap space acquiring picks IMO, prospects and young players typically will not move in order to facilitate a move like these.

Prospects have but yes. I didn’t just pick names out of a hat tho. Sandin is blocked in TOR right now and Konecny has been talked about before.

Sandins value is A LOT higher than dadonov lmao.
His value is roughly equivalent to what you might ask for Drysdale, except sandin has actually been good in the nhl while we are still waiting in dry to develop.

And again, sandin isn't blocked. That's just media hype and your imagination. The odd man out is elsewhere
