As much as the Habs would like to get out from under that horrible Anderson contract, I’m not sure whether they would do that deal. In terms of points, it’s pretty equal, but size, speed and strength is something of a deficit on the Habs front end.

Olofsson produces more and is cheaper but I agree, added the 3rd as a sweetener

I’d rather have Olofsson. DuBois isn’t happening, let’s focus our energy elsewhere.

I like olofsson more than a lot of people on here, but Anderson does provide a different dynamic too.

Not to mention a $5.5 million long-term contract that we can’t really afford when you consider that we have to make significant raise payments to Thompson, Dahlin, Power, Krebs, and Cozens all in the next 2 years.

Anderson contract is fine, it just feels horrible because of the Armia, Gallagher, Hoffman, and Byron contracts.

Id take that deal for Anderson. But honestly, id rather picks and prospects coming back instead of a roster player

I don't have a crystal ball, and these guys are all heading in the right direction, but as of today, they all get significant but not cap killing raises for their next contracts.

First, I really like Olofsson's future.
After Olofsson's wrist healed, over his final 34 games he had 15 goals, 13 assists, 28 pts and was +1, I could see him reaching 30 goals next year.
Montreal will need to shed cap may be willing to make it a one for one trade.
Second:
Eakin $2,250,000
Miller $3,875,000
Butcher $2,822,764
Boychuk $6,000,000
Total $14,947,764
Are all gone this year.
Including the space from this year $13,925,408 gives us $28,773,172 of cap space
Olofsson would likely be given a $4,500,000 contract only $1,000,000 less than Anderson’s.
Thompson at $1,400,000, Cozen at $894,167 and Okposo at $6,000,000 contract expire next year, dropping $8,294,167 of the cap space.
I will presume:
Thompson $7,000,000
Cozens $5,000,000
Okposo $2,500,000
$14,500,000 or $6,844,167 more than their combined salaries this year.
Krebs, Dahlin and Mittelstadt contracts expire in 2024, presuming their future contracts to be $4,500,000, $11,000,000 and $4,500,000 respectively or $20,000,000. but only $10,636,667 more than their current contracts.
Thompson, Cozen, Krebs, Dahlin and Mittelstadt contracts will add about $17,000,000 to the cap at the end of 2024,
Subtracting that from the $28,773,172 cap space the Sabres' will have at the this year, leaves $11,000,000, leaving ample cap to sign Power 2025.
In addition, presuming 5% simple interest over the next 3 years, the cap will go up by nearly $5,000,000

Bottom line cap will not be an issue for at least four years, if you like the trade, the cap will not prevent you from making the deal.

One needs to decide do we go with the hand we are dealt, Olofsson, or turn in a card and get Anderson.
Personally, in this case, I will hold them close to the vest and keep Olofsson and expect him to reach 30 goals next year.

EDIT: I am sure I over looked something, but I do not foresee cap as an issue for not making this trade.

Wishful thinking on my part.
I am hoping that he wins the Norris trophy the next four years, Thompson, Skinner and Olofsson all reach 40 goals next year while Krebs, Mittelstadt, Tuch, Okposo and Cozens get at least 20 goals and 60 points.
The way Granato has the team playing with confidence, who knows.
At the start of the season we all expected fewer pts than last year, not double.
Let's hope Mittelstadt, Olofsson and Girgensons all stay healthy, Asplund transfer his IIHF scoring touch to the NHL, Quinn, Peterka and Ruotsalainen make a successful transition to the NHL and Power wins the Calder and finishes second behind Dahlin for the Norris trophy.
Buffalo descends into cap hell in 2026, trading away players but having the players drafted over the next two years, stepping up and taking their place.
I see Florida lost which moves up the draft pick to 28th OA, but Rochester lost for the second time to Laval.
