Somehow trading Karlsson and Burns

Description
I am aware that this is INCREDIBLY unrealistic. It's likely that Karlsson nor Benn waive their NMCs, and knowing Jim Nill he's not exactly keen to make big moves.

1.
SJS
  1. Benn, Jamie
  2. Faksa, Radek
Détails additionnels:
Faksa is ok but he's a bit overpaid. Benn's contract, along with Karlsson's, is an absolute anchor, but it ends sooner.
DAL
  1. Balcers, Rūdolfs
  2. Bonino, Nick (1 025 000 $ retained)
  3. Karlsson, Erik (3 000 000 $ retained)
  4. Raska, Adam
Détails additionnels:
A lot of people forget that Karlsson wasn't terrible this year. He'd be an excellent replacement for Klingberg roster-wise. Raska has the potential to be a replacement for Faksa within 2-3 years, and Dallas also gets two depth pieces.
2.
SJS
  1. Zaitsev, Nikita
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (OTT)
OTT
  1. Burns, Brent (2 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Burns at 6 million for Zaitsev at 4.5 is a very solid deal for the Sens. The Senators get Burns, an offensively minded defenseman with a physical side to his game. The Sharks get the 4.5 million dollar liability that is Nikita Zaitsev, whose contract ends a year sooner. I can see Dorion paying a 2nd for this, but a 3rd seems more appropriate here.
3.
SJS
  1. Blackwood, Mackenzie
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
With Blackwood's time with New Jersey likely up, now is the perfect time to trade him in for a bonafide veteran starter. With Reimer seemingly getting better with age, a 2nd and Blackwood is a fair price to pay.
NJD
  1. Reimer, James
Détails additionnels:
Reimer is more than likely to repeat his results from last year in New Jersey. Trading him for an albeit experimental goalie and a mid-late 2nd seems fair to me.
4.
SJS
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (NYI)
NYI
  1. Hill, Adin
Détails additionnels:
Hill could go anywhere for a 3rd or 4th rounder, but with Varlamov likely being dealt, the Isles seem like a likely destination. Other teams that could use Hill's help include CBJ, STL, or TOR.
5.
SJS
  1. Choix de 7e ronde en 2023 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
SJS receives this pick if Labanc plays in half of Arizona's games this season
ARI
  1. Labanc, Kevin
Détails additionnels:
Labanc desperately needs a change of scenery. This trade could work out great for Arizona if Labanc bounces back.
6.
SJS
  1. Jonsson-Fjällby, Axel
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
Jonsson-Fjallby is likely not gonna see much time with the Caps this year if they want to compete.

You're right that Karlsson to the Stars would be great move for them rn. Would think picks would be involved going to SJ, as this would be the Stars loading up, and you're retaining a lot and getting **** all back

That NJ trade just doesn't make sense. They aren't in a panic to unload a bad contract that they trade a young goalie AND a second for Reimer. I wouldn't even give up a 2nd alone for Reimer as an expiring vet.

Agreed with above - you should probably have Dallas sending more if you're taking 2 bad contracts off their hands -and- burning that much retention. Whether it's picks or prospects, that trade is heavily tilted towards the Stars.

Would love to hear Sens fans' thoughts on that trade - I know there's a lot of D prospects in their pipeline, but doing an all-in move like this might make sense with some of the Eastern contenders looking a little vulnerable.

Devs think about this, and maybe pull the trigger. Again, the East could be in flux next year and the Devs' goalies this year put up an incredible -53 goals saved above average (Reimer put up 5.9). That 59 goal swing would literally put their goal differential at even this year (they actually put up 248-307 GF-GA with what they put out there.)

I think the value is fine, but the Isles probably pass. Even if they move Varlamov, I see them more likely to sign a UFA veteran in the $1.5-2M range to pick up the 20-25 starts that they don't run Sorokin out there.

For Labanc, I'd almost want to circle back to the Isles - maybe a bad contract swap where you take on the back end of Josh Bailey, Isles bring in the Brooklyn boy Labanc, and maybe a 2nd/3rd round pick swap to even it out?

I think this last trade works for the Caps - like you said, AJF probably doesn't get a ton of icetime this year, and Barbanov would give them an affordable middle six guy and the ability to maybe try and move out another change of scenery player on their end/swap out a forward to replenish their D depth.

The Burns and Karlsson trades are awful for the sharks. Getting taken out behind the shed with them really. All that retention and good young and cheap players going the other way for absolutely nothing in return.

Years ago I desperately wanted to see Duncan Keith and Erik Karlsson as a pairing. Now idk how I feel about that

We are not paying to get rid of Blackwood. That’s just silly.

I think of it more as paying to get Reimer, not necessarily to get rid of Blackwood.

In hindsight this should probably be a one for one deal.
