Agreed with above - you should probably have Dallas sending more if you're taking 2 bad contracts off their hands -and- burning that much retention. Whether it's picks or prospects, that trade is heavily tilted towards the Stars.
Would love to hear Sens fans' thoughts on that trade - I know there's a lot of D prospects in their pipeline, but doing an all-in move like this might make sense with some of the Eastern contenders looking a little vulnerable.
Devs think about this, and maybe pull the trigger. Again, the East could be in flux next year and the Devs' goalies this year put up an incredible -53 goals saved above average (Reimer put up 5.9). That 59 goal swing would literally put their goal differential at even this year (they actually put up 248-307 GF-GA with what they put out there.)
I think the value is fine, but the Isles probably pass. Even if they move Varlamov, I see them more likely to sign a UFA veteran in the $1.5-2M range to pick up the 20-25 starts that they don't run Sorokin out there.
For Labanc, I'd almost want to circle back to the Isles - maybe a bad contract swap where you take on the back end of Josh Bailey, Isles bring in the Brooklyn boy Labanc, and maybe a 2nd/3rd round pick swap to even it out?
I think this last trade works for the Caps - like you said, AJF probably doesn't get a ton of icetime this year, and Barbanov would give them an affordable middle six guy and the ability to maybe try and move out another change of scenery player on their end/swap out a forward to replenish their D depth.
