Description
Look, Trotz is not a good coach for us. Barzal was going to want out and no FA would sign with us after what we have done to ruin Palmieri and Pageau. This is only a bad move if we make a lateral coaching signing like Paul Maurice or Torterella or Babcock or something stupid

assuming we bring in an offensive coach we can move out a lot of these older guys for picks, grow the core, get a really good, young player next draft and become a really good team with a core of:
Barzal, Wahlstrom, Raty, Dufour, Lee, Nelson, Bellows (2022/23 draft pick)

Pelech, Pulock, Dobson, (2022/23 draft pick LD)

Sorokin

Thats a really solid core for 2-3 years from now and they are all super young

Wild that they fired trotz, but I get it. They needed to change something and they thought coaching would have the most impact.

I believe you all will be the ones adding a pick to move them. Can't see teams lining up for these old dudes.

Trotz had them punching upwards I don't see a single offensive minded coach on the market that will have the Isles return to the EFC looks like it's going to be a long rebuild on long island

Not an Isles fan here...but as a NYR fan- am somewhat in tune with what's going on with the Isles. Just seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction to a perfect storm of reasons for an off season. Did hear of issues between Trotz and Wahlstrom....but didn't realize there were other issues. Hey- it's easier to replace 1 coach than several players- let alone stars like Barzal. But I'd question some of the signings and moves Lou has made- rather than the relationship Trotz has with some players...I really thought it's what Trotz brought which came ever so close to delivering the Cup back to the Island last year (face it- 1 goal shy of TB...beat them , they would have wiped out MTL).

Yeah, OP lost me there. Pageau is amazing. Arguably a better player now than he was with OTT, just not as much of a scorer but that's because he's in his proper role now. Palmieri also wasn't ruined by Trotz, Palmieri's start was his own doing.

I can see us hiring Lane Lambert, who's been our associate head coach since Trotz was here. He's been a coveted head coaching option for a couple years now. When Trotz was out for a little when his mother passed away, Lambert did a really good job.

It also sounds like he lost the locker room. I wonder if the players like Lambert so much they pushed for him to be the new HC.

considering lou said he didn’t speak to the players prior to making the decision, i don’t think that’s true

Trotz is the best Coach we've had since Al Arbour and it's not even close. One bad year and he's gone? Mind numbingly stupid. Lou is on thin ice. He better have a real nice plan this summer or he's going to be next.

I don't know to much about Lambert so I am not sure so I couldn't say much about him but firing a guy who is just took a team to the ecf less then a calendar year ago isn't a good look imho I'd be shocked if he lost the room that fast too have a feeling its just another bad decision by lou

Still below a point per game player lol him going on a hot streak doesn't justify him being on a positive contract he is also 553 for cost per point this year... isles would have to retain quite a bit for him to be valuable

youre kidding me, right? hot streaks dont last 27 games lmao. and okay he had a bad start to the year but you think one year will keep teams from going after him in how poor this FA class is? Hamonic got a 3rd, Pamieri could get a return

Ones team stupidity doesnt mean that sets the market, it's 27 games of him still being below a ppg player hell 2 defensemen are his contract comparables I don't think you will find many here that would say Palmieri is worth is contract at best case scenario Palmeri gets a 4th and I still think that's pushing it he is only getting to get worse as the contract ages

so if someone isnt a PPG they are worth nothing? what. he was paid a 1st and depth for a 17 points in 34 GP as a rental 2 years ago... you think now that he was on that same pace for the year AND was on fire to end the season that he is worth nothing. His contract is on par for what other players of his stature are getting paid. He isnt getting a 1st but he is easily getting a c level prospect and mid pick from a team like Anaheim looking to add veterans to help the team switch to contending. A trade like a future 3rd and random AHL guy under 24 makes sense

yes. and he is next IMO. likely next offseason. which then is when we draft someone good and start contedning with a really good core of:
Barzal, Raty, Dufour, Bellows, Wahlstrom (draft pick from 22/23) Holmstrom (doubt he makes the NHL but u never know), Beauvillier, Nelson and Lee. Then pelech pulock dobson salo draft pick from 22/23 and Sorokin. we have a lot of talented pieces

Trotz handling of Barzal and Wahlstrom has been bizarre. This needed to happen, Trotz has too much of an affinity for vets and it was killing the isles this season

It is insane to me that people think that Trotz was the reason for the isles success. The first two years Trotz was head coach the isles had 3 young top pair caliber defenseman, he was gifted them. Trotz didn’t change the trajectory of any player besides Brock Nelson. Defense, goaltending , and Barzal was the reason for the isles success, not Trotz.

This year Trotz didn’t like that some of his trusted vets regressed so he took it out on young guys like Barzal and Wahlstrom. He’ll wear out his welcome anywhere he goes, Trotz hates any young forward with skill
