Muzzin for Varlamov is a great starting point for a trade

Pretty good agreed

CJ also made a good list of UFA forwards Toronto could eye

https://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/opinion/2022/05/22/the-leafs-most-intriguing-buy-low-options-will-include-the-guy-who-ended-their-season.html

The one big question is who is gonna be the starting goalie

To me I think personally they are gonna bring Campbell back at 4.75mill or something like that but we shall see

Ya, it’s a bit of a problem. It’s a great problem to have, don’t get me wrong, but still a problem.

Because Muzzin initially seems like the right candidate to move, but his physicality and cup winning experience are very important.

It would be great if one of those guys could play RD. I think what’ll probably happen is they just run with 4 left d and alternate who sits.

I'd drop the picks. I myself don't think TOR should add in a trade involving a top4 D and a 1B-2A goalie, but maybe you can convince me otherwise.

It does seem like dropping the picks would make the value fair, yes.

makes a lot of sense but i dont think either guy waives.

i get the sense if varly was ok playing in toronto he'd already be there and muzzin is from ontario so i think he'll want to stay.

Muzzin isn’t a top 4 D at this point and he has significant injury concerns. Varlamov is a 1A, he just plays behind a top 5 goalie in the NHl

I don't really get why you'd suggest a trade like that if that were true

I’m glad someone else thinks that highly of Sorokin. He is top three imo. Top three is Igor Sorokin Vasi

The Muzzin situation we are seeing rn honestly reminds me of the of the McDonagh situation 2 years ago in Tampa

End result was Tampa kept him and Tampa fans love him now and hes carved out a good role

Got a feeling with a restful offseason Muzzin will be back to being an important member of our blue line.

To me how we solve the 4 LD problem is either Sandin or Rielly plays on the right side

Muzzin is a good #5 D, he can probably pass playing in a #4 role with Dobson. I wouldn’t do it, I’m just saying the 1st is the incentive for taking on the risk with Muzzin

When healthy Muzzin is easily a top 4 d.

Key words, when healthy.

I think you're a bit harsh in your opinion of Muzzin. The injury concerns are certainly there, and he was battling this year for sure. But I think it's a bit premature to say that he's no longer a top 4 Dman when we don't really know where he's at health-wise and he's got a long history of having borderline elite impact right up to this past season.

Not trying to discount the injury factor, which is definitely a sizeable concern, but I'm optimistic that he'll show improvement next year.

Edit: I'll be interested to see that if the Leafs keep him whether they'll really commit to a load management strategy with him. Doesn't happen much in hockey, so it'd be intriguing to see.

Fair enough. I’m just assuming the leafs didn’t let Muzzin play injured and that his impact this season is what he is at this point. I know he was elite before this season , but things can change fast due to age and injuries. I think he can pass a 2nd pair D with an elite partner, but you can’t put him with a guy like Holl and expect good results anymore.

Definitely agree with most of that. And Muzzin is a hard miles player and it's possible that all that's just catching up to him at this point and it is what it is. But he dealt with multiple injuries this season and it's also very possible that he bounces back significantly next year. I think it's a wait and see game with him at this point to find out what he really is now.

Oilers are not going to be able to afford Kane in the Offseason, to bad because he is by far the best winger (besides Drai) McDavid has ever had, at least him leaving opens up a spot for Holloway in the top six

I disagree, I think theyll move one of Yamamoto/Puljujarvi to keep him
