Scheifele Schmidt package

Description
I would love to see Yzerman acquire scheifele, Schmidt, and petterson in the offseason. Could this package get it done?

Scheifele is a Really solid 2way #2 C option to play with 2 offensive Czech wingers. Schmidt is a competent D partner for Seider that can log minutes and put up points. Petterson’s defensive play can make up for some of Hronek’s D.

I feel like this roster is considerably more competitive without giving up too much for the future, although that 1st hurts.

Other than the 1st there is nothing there that Winnipeg needs or wants. The Jets say no.

That's way too much to give up for Scheifele.

Johansson is the most NHL-ready LD prospect we have (he's outperforming Edvinsson in the SHL).
Berggren is the most NHL-ready RW prospect we have.
Suter is one of very few players on this team that has more takeaways than giveaways (only Vrána and Bertuzzi have more takeaways (per 60) than him).

You're giving up five assets to get one, that's not what rebuilding teams do. Get Pettersson and Schmidt (or Martinez), that'll cost two 3rd round picks. Then get a centre in the draft or in FA and keep the assets.

What Winnipeg needs most is a large RHD... and last checked Seider isnt available. I dont see a deal to be made between DRW and the Jets for Scheifele.

You didn't ask me, but I'd be looking at the 2022 1st, not the 2023 1st as the main piece of the return and then I'd want Tuomisto as a RHD prospect as we're very deep on the left but much thinner on the right side and with Seider, Hronek and Lindstrom all under 24 years old he may not see a very direct path to the NHL when he's done in college with you.

So something like Scheif + Schmidt for '22 1st + Tuomisto's rights + Berggren.

To me the only realistic thing that makes me consider moving Scheif to Detroit would be the top 10 pick in the draft. I take the opportunity to bolster our RHD prospect pool as well and add a RHS forward prospect that may be ready for the NHL in another year or so.

I also think that since Copp and Scheif are best buds that it would give you the inside lane at signing Copp as a UFA.

I'd love to get Scheifele but that's just not enough value for Winnipeg. Stud 1Cs in their prime don't grow on trees. Red Wings aren't in a position right now to make such a trade. Gutting the team for 1 player makes no sense. There's Zero need for Stevie to fast track his rebuild.

Wings fans wouldn't want to do this, but if I am Chevy I'm asking for Raymond as part of the package.

That's a non-starter. I don't blame Jets fans asking for Raymond in a Scheifele deal but Yzerman isn't doing that.

And I wouldn't expect him to, but there will need to be a top 6 forward in return who is a right shot, and that guy fits the bill. I don't see the Wings pulling any blockbusters for a couple years. Now it;s just about getting young prospects and giving them ice time
