Looking at other teams needs

Description
Regarding Martin. He's not actually bought out but retired given his body being beaten up. Also, this roster would be midway through the season after some early season lineup experimentation by Trotz. I'm also taking into consideration how much Minnesota believes in Rossi right now as opposed to Addison.
There may be some other trades involving trading away Bellows and other picks in a pick/prospect swap, but this is the meat and potatoes of what could happen. Also, Fiala and Leddy's hits seem low but their actual money owed would be backloaded in their contracts.

NYI
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (BOS)
  2. Choix de 7e ronde en 2023 (NSH)
OTT
  1. Bailey, Josh
Détails additionnels:
Owed less money than his actual cap hit. Doesn't have to give up much given it's an offseason trade. Re-unites him with Capuano. Enables Ottawa the possibility to flip him in the 2024 deadline if Ottawa continues to falter by then.
2.
NYI
  1. Dunn, Vince
Détails additionnels:
The Islanders get a young 2LD with playoff experience and RFA rights without having to fork over too much for a player like Chychrun.
SEA
  1. Salo, Robin [Droits de RFA]
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (COL)
  3. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
To avoid running the risk of Dunn possibly filing for arbitration in the 2023 offseason due to current mismanagement by Hakstol, Francis would move Dunn to acquire more draft capital to buffer up their prospect pool and an NHL-ready D at a low AAV.
3.
NYI
  1. Fiala, Kevin [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
From an offensive standpoint, the Islanders finally get a top line LW they've been going for. Easy to accommodate him into the lineup given familiarity in the lockerroom between him and Parise.
MIN
  1. Pánik, Richard
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (NYI)
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (NYI)
  4. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Fiala is 25 but given Minnesota's cap crunch, this is a realistic haul Minnesota would get. The mindset from Minnesota is to get picks from another team when they'd be at their highest value. The 2022 pick is a pick outside a playoff spot while the 2024 picks would be when the Islanders possibly take a step back. Panik going the other way clears away a contract. Also think, Minnesota will also trade away Kulikov at some point during the offseason as well.

Dobson is probably going to get paid more than that (probably around 5, 5.25-ish)

Not a fan of Fiala
We can get Reilly for less assets

Ottawa probably doesn't need Bailey and he would would not really go well in their top 9 cause the sens are building a big team with speed and Bailey is not really that and a better option is signing litteraly anyone else cause they probably produce at a better rate then their contract is worth. Note that Ottawa would still have to sign Stutzle, Norris, Formenton, Joseph, Brannstromm, and a few other players. That contract makes it extremely difficult.

Dobson has no arbitration rights and he's not getting close to Pelech's current hit based off of 1 offensive year with current glaring issues in his defensive game. Also, Dunn > Rielly.

Fiala's also only 25 with playoff experience and is a fast skater and finisher, which compliments Barzal's 5 on 5 game.

My opinion: gotta keep the draft picks man. We can't become Vegas, trading away all our picks each year

As well as that, Reilly is cheaper & looks like that Boston doesn't want him around, so...

Vegas is trading away picks and players recently signed. Islanders aren't doing that here.

I agree with the former but then why trade a 3rd for 1 guaranteed year of Hamonic?

If Fiala agrees to take only 6,75 million, we can afford to keep him. But the value is not bad here.

He's been really good with Ottawa and I think a couple of people though he would be just terrible but he is a right shot defensemen on a okay contract plus he had a great relationship with Jack Capuano who was with NYI when Hamonic was there.

Speaking of Capuano, seems he might be getting promoted from within. Have a bad feeling Smith is getting canned.

Dude, Fiala's value on this site is you're franchise player plus ten first round picks. If that isn't bad then I'm afraid of what is good.

That deal & contract for Fiala gets beaten elsewhere, imo, or Minny finds a way to keep him at 7x$6.75M.

You have to pay Middleton, probably Fleury since you traded KK. Would think keeping Dumba is also beneficial if the Wild view themselves as cup contenders right now. Guerin and Lou also have a tie given previous experience in NJ. Can't rule it out.

Ok, what contender is trading for and keeping Fiala at that AAV long-term as well as package?

Not that I support the idea, but I think Chara is coming back for another year. It definitely seems like Lou and Trotz love having him around.

Mike Reilly would be a good pickup as Boston will most likely move him this offseason, and if the Isles do re-sign Chara then the D is:

Pelech-Pulock.
Chara-Dobson
Reilly-Mayfield
Salo (Rotate in like they did Dobson his 1st year.

If Chara is not resigned then the Isles should look to find a LD that is better Defensively than Dunn that allows Dobson to join the rush. A guy like McCabe from CHI could fit that slot.

If the Islanders were bringing back Chara, they would've re-signed him along with Clutterbuck and Parise. Salo also wasn't drafted by the Islanders when Lou was in charge. No attachment.

Post should be titled "looking at other teams needs.... and ignoring them". Sens have absolutely no use at all for Josh Bailey. Look at the Wingers they have next year. Sens have Tkachuk, Batherson, Joseph, Formenton and Brown in the top 9 next year. There's definitely an opening on the 2nd line,,but definitely not for a completely inept goalscorer like Bailey. He makes 5mil and would be a 4th liner in Ottawa. Bailey to Ottawa deals on here are getting worse than Byron to Ottawa used to be.

off the top of my head - Pittsburgh has nearly $29M in cap space next year and a Bryan Rust-sized hole in their lineup next season.

Anaheim is in the last stages of a rebuild and is probably ready to pull the trigger on a top line player to pull them all the way into contention ($41M in cap next year!)

Nashville's got $26+M in cap space and might be in the market for a Filip Forsberg replacement.

Colorado's got Nazem Kadri, Andre Burakovsky, and Valeri Nichushkin coming off the books and while they may have more holes to fill than the other teams here, they also have $26.5M to play with.

Not necessarily, Lou can certainly have an understanding with Chara and will work out the details during the Summer. Parise signed his deal last summer almost 2 months before it was announced.

Whether Salo was drafted by Lou or not, he looks like a legit NHL D. He should have been playing every game over Aho who is a 7th D at best, and more likely just a really good AHL player.

Pittsburgh needs $ for Malkin, Letang and Kapanen and Rakell.

Colorado needs C depth more than winger depth. Keeping Kadri should be no. 1 priority.

Nashville is going to most likely keep Forsberg due to the 8th year and no income tax.

Anaheim isn't in the last stages of the rebuild given that they literally traded away Lindholm.

Salo had his moments but the Islanders organization isn't going to be as patient with him compared to Dobson given the difference of age. Also, the Parise deal back then compared to now are entirely different circumstances. Team was cap crunched then compared to now.

On a team like Ottawa, Bailey would be mid-6. If he helps them make the playoffs, cool. If not, he can get flipped at the 2024 deadline when 1. Buyers get more desperate and 2. When his supporting cast helps bump up his numbers, increasing his value.

You want more, then?

LA is a playoff team as we speak, probably a year ahead of schedule for them, but they have tons of prospect ammo and tons of cap room to pick up Fiala.

Carolina is one of the favorites to come out of the East and has $10M of Vincent Trocheck & Nino Niederreiter coming off the books this year ($20M cap in total) along with the futures capital to swing the deal.

Everyone has Johnny Gaudreau leaving the Flames, I bet they could use their $27M in cap space and dangle someone like Connor Zary to make the trade work, no?

Look, I'm not trying to go point for point and refute everything you say just so you can refute my refutations. The point is, if Minnesota makes him available, there are many contending teams with the picks/prospects to get his rights, and the cap space/roster need to sign him to a $7.5M+ AAV if they want to.

Sure, I can't rule it out. But realistically, Middleton has played some 80 games as a 26-yo. He won't break the bank. Neither will Fleury, who will likely take a one-year, team-friendly deal. If Fiala only wants 6,75 million, we will be jumping out of joy. The problem is that he likely wants 7,5 to 8 million, on a long-term deal.
