Description
Wanted to create a different offseason plan. Like a 2.0 version, not a better version just a different approach.

I wanted to create a no so expensive offseason, but an effective offseason

I traded than signed Fiala, he has to play with barzy because barzy needs an elite player by his side.

I want to keep brock lee at line 1 they work well, i added palmeri in there because he will do good on that line, it will boost his trade value to clear up cap, and hes getting old. But that is a old 1st line so idk because it is very good line but a very old line

2nd line i wanted to make a young line that will be here to stay and is very effective. That will be future 1st line. But i want them to work and produce and minutes like a top line

3rd line i wanted to trade bailey, to clear cap and get a player cheaper and somewhat better, ya its sad to see him leave but it has to be done, i replaced him with Jarnok a good 15 goal scorer who has experience. Only a 2 year deal.

4th line: wanted to replace clutter for johnston because i like johnston and martin together alot because its scary. But we just signed clutter and hes a key pker. So i traded martin because johnston is a lot better than him.

Traded for Carson Soucy because hes a cheap 27 year old defenseman, and he is good from what i heard. He has a postive plus minus on the kraken so i think that speaks volume. Could also do the same trade but for Shayne Gostisbehere who is a good offensive cheap 27 yearold defenseman.

Trade deadline if we are doing good i see us trading for another defenseman to replace salo for playoffs. But i hope salo will be good enough not to do that

I think lou wants varly back another year, and with the cap space i have created there is no reason to move him, let him ride out his contract, it will be very beneficial for our playoff run and the broviet union.

I really like this offseason it isn't an expensive offseason but it is a very benefical offseason and leaves 4 mil in cap for next season.

Elliotte Friedman said Soucy wasn’t available at the deadline. My bet is Seattle will resign him or flip him at the deadline for a first round pick. I wouldn’t trade Beauvillier Bellows and a 1st for Fiala. I like Beauvillier’s fit with Nelson and Lee as a puck handler and don’t view Palmieri as the right fit for that first line. Also even though Fiala is obviously better than Beauvillier, that seems like a steep asking price considering you are weakening at least one line by moving Bellows and Beauvillier.

Josh Bailey is worth more than a 3rd. If they can’t get fair value I think you are better off keeping him. I get that some fans really hate his game. I get that his metrics are down this year. But he’s been much better in the second half of the year. I think it’s more of a defense/Covid issue with this team

I honestly think the Isles forward core is fine so long as you make a significant upgrade on defense. Like do you wish they had younger and cheaper wings? Obviously. But the only way you can fix that is by drafting well.

i agree with what you are saying but bailey is getting paid too much, yes i would love to keep him but we need room to sign cheaper more effective players. but we do need a better forward to help boost our offense and to put by barzy because barzy needs someone who can fit his skill set and i think fiala is the right option for that. ya our forward group is Fine but it can be better.

Josh Bailey's metrics have been bad for 3 years now, the problem is this year he's one of the worst even strength forwards in the NHL. That 3rd line is on a PDO bender right now and Bailey's metrics aren't much better than earlier in the season. Im not a Bailey hater but there is no chance this team can contend with a 33 YO Bailey in the top 9 next season.

The isles forward core needs some addition by subtraction. Getting rid of Bailey and Martin and replacing them with younger + faster forwards is all this team needs. They don't need a significant upgrade on defense either, Dobson/Pulock/Pelech is a top 3 D trio in the NHL, the issue is Lou and Trotz decided to fill the 2 + 3LD spots with two 40 YO D.

thanks for the feedback, I wasn't really sure what to pay him, I thought I was gonna get a bunch of angry Minnesota fans if I underpaid him

He’s good but I think Beau + Walhstrom is an overpay itself yet alone adding the 1st too which is likely top 15.

You think they could move Bellows for someone like Logan Stanley or worst case scenario Haydn Fleury? Because if you could get one of those two and bring up Salo next year I think you could fix their defensive issues and stay under the cap.

Like I’m trying to make an armchair GM team but I don’t want to get ripped to shreds over a trade for someone like Logan Stanley. Even someone like Lauzon would be fine imo.

He's not fine as a 3rd liner, he's what you'd call a line killer. That's what he is at this point in his career. There are two somewhat realistic scenarios that could play out - a GM gets blinded by his decent point totals and is willing to give up a late rd pick or the isles can buy him out.

There is nothing the isles can do to become contenders if Bailey is in the top 9. Aging curves are real and Bailey isn't going to improve at 33 YO, then when you factor in regression for guys like Lee+ Nelson, it isn't good.

95% of NHL forwards have had a better overall impact than Josh Bailey the season

I get what your saying but if he is as bad as you say then why would anyone trade for him? In my mind there is a bell curve for when you should move a bad contract. Bailey is at the point in his career where if he doesn’t have any trade value you are better off living with him.

He has experience and has been good. He has 30 points and more than 20 of them are assists. His decision making is terrible. Only isles fans know how no great he is

The Flyers GM gave a 5.1 x 5 contract to Risto who is arguably the worst defenseman in the NHL, Vancouver gave 6 mill x 5 to Tyler Myers. There are plenty of GM's who constantly make bad decisions. Keeping Bailey significantly hurts the isles chances of making the playoffs, last resort buying him out has to be an option,. Isles can't go into next season with Bailey on the team.

If Lou can trade one of the best defenseman in the league a few days after his wedding, he should be able to get rid of Bailey.

if the Wild could get Fiala @ 6.5mil, they'd keep him.....his value based on play has soared to near 7.5mil now, and the Wild wont go that high im guessing....Ottawa has better trade assets that the Isles anyway, he would be traded there first im guessing

Yes but trading Toews was a terrible idea lol. And Toews is good. You can’t have it both ways imo. Either you want to offload Bailey to a sucker or he is untradeable.

I like to operate under two assumptions. First the Islanders won’t add a superstar in the off season. Secondly even if I clear that cap space on Bailey will I be able to spend it on someone I like anyway? It may be easier to trade Bellows for a d man and start the regular season with Bailey.

I agree with your first assumption. It would be very hard to replace Bailey with a worse player. He cannot be in your teams top 9 if you have playoff aspirations. He is cooked.
