I don't know why they're buying but at this price the Jets are getting good value, so I guess that's a plus

So essentially Ottawa drafted Logan Brown 11th overall, then traded him for Sanford, then for a 5th. Not great asset management.

Even by the low standards we've come to expect from these types of depth forwards in Ottawa, Zack Sanford still managed to completely underwhelm. Had a couple standout performances but the vast majority of his time here he might as well not have been on the ice at all. Just a big nothing.

Did the two Pierres in our cesspool of a front office even look at Sanford's trade history before doing this deal??

We essentially gave away Logan Brown for free and dropped 40 spots in the upcoming draft.

To 5 years of unparalleled success!!!!

Aside from the random hat trick Sanford was really not a useful piece in Ottawa. Played a lot of disinterested hockey. Less to do with asset management and more to do with a hockey player who didn’t want to play hockey in the city where his contract was held.

The fact that they were able to get anything at all is a win for Ottawa.

Which part? If you take that hat trick away there really isn’t even a highlight for his season in Ottawa. Not a single thing he did sticks out. He had nights where he looked better than Paul and then he’d disappear for the next 5 games.

Ok, we’ll that probably speaks more about the first trade or drafting Brown.

To be completely fair, Sanford doesn’t really have a trade history. He was an orbital piece in a bigger deal years ago and then was the return in the Brown trade most recently.

Also if Brown manages 8 more games before the end of the season (very possible) then there is no 4th going to STL from Ottawa. Meaning it was basically Brown for a 5th and half a season of Sanford. Could be worse.

What would need to happen to keep the 4th round pick is ...

1. For Thomas and Bozak to stay on IR.

2. For the Blues to roll with 12 Fs and 6 D instead of the 11 Fs and 7 D that they've been doing recently.

3. For Logan Brown to appear in 8 games out of 21 games for the Blues

4. For the Blues to not view the 4th round pick as a priority over Brown's contributions on the fourth line.

Brown has played 22 out of 61 games for the Blues.

36% appearance rate

He needs to play 8 out of the 21 remaining games.

38% appearance rate

I'm a bit skeptical of our chances of retaining the pick.

If the Jets get the St Louis version of Sanford it is a win. If it is the Ottawa version then they just gave away a 5th.
