If Chiarot got what he did, Toronto will have to give up a first for a much better defenseman.

EF said that the Leafs aren't giving up a first round pick or prospects for a rental, the package could be around a 2nd, Dermott, and someone like Duszak (20 teams are scouting him)

Great pickup! Could help you get out of that first round… it will be interesting to see what happens today, but I’m excited!

Given Chiarot's return, can't see Seattle for settling less than a 1st in some capacity, especially since Dermott sucks. If Francis does settle for less, he should be fired immediately.

Think you need to edit that. The same team views the same player differently?

That’s interesting.. coming back to a team in Alberta. I could see it. It may cost a bit to get for him, but I think it would be worth it. He just create more depth, which creates more opportunities, which creates more options, which creates a higher chance of playing well. I believe Toronto has to either make it out of the first round, or compete and bring the series to game 7 this season. With Giordanos help, and if Campbell can play well, this could be a good team!

Unfortunately Gio has a 19 team trade list so Francis can send him to any one of those. He doesn't have a NMC.

Giordano could really limit Muzzin's minutes

Yes but there are only 4 teams interested in him (Rangers, Bruins, Leafs, and Canes). What happens the package the Leafs offer is the 'best package'?

Ah yes this response. Dermott has been an exceptional 3rd pair defender. Limited beyond that maybe but in no way does that make a player suck. But of course we have these types of people who like to say if a player isn't an all-star they suck.

Yes, and that could make him play better. That could also make him try harder as he would have to compete with Giordano for that top 4 spot. Which that would create more options for lines.

He's still a good player and won't be asked to carry the Blueline in TO. He'll be a support guy on the 2nd or 3rd pair. Would be a good guy to have in the room as well.

It was the first trade of the TDL period and took a defenseman off the market thereby increasing the value of others. Also, Helleson is a better prospect than what MTL got.

I think he has been very solid this season. Don’t pay attention to his plus minus, as it makes sense why that is bad, but he does have good stats. With all the games I have watched, I have really liked his defensive game a lot. Definitely better than it was in Calgary. He may have another season in him, but if so, he would sign very cheap as he is 38. It makes perfect sense for Toronto to get him in my opinion. Helps Muzzin, helps Toronto… also, makes Muzzin work harder for that top 4 minutes!

Bad trades rarely set the market and the Chiarot trade was bad.

Don't count the Blues out. Their initial want (for whatever reason) was Chiarot so they're still in the market. That stated, I know Boston won't offer a first for him. Anything can happen, it's the NHL, but I'm just saying he's much better than Chiarot and Seattle could get a first without taking salary back.

With Gio's M NTC he does have some control over where he goes. Leaf players that won a Cup in the 1960s are still considered heroes in Leaf nation. Giordano raised in the GTA, probably relishes the opportunity to help the Leafs win a Cup. Immortality (and all the financial benefits) forever in Leaf nation. Now does Seattle maybe take a "lesser" deal to appease their captain?

They do when supply is shortened. Hughes probably phrased the situation as "if you want any shot in beating Tampa, this is what you'll give us" and Florida caved.
