Detroit would never do that, but just to be outrageous, you'd think they'd want four 1st round picks from Buffalo. That way they are getting a lottery pick for four straight years.

I'd rather do it that way if they'd rather get 1 1st a year from Buffalo for the next 4 years -see if you can work that out would you?

laugh Henri Jokiharju 48 points in 191 career NHL games, Moritz Seider 42 points in 60 career NHL games. So who's the better Dman and it's not even close? Even if Buffalo's 1st were Shane Wright i'd still turn it down.

I don’t think Detroit does that, but at the same time, that is a LOT for Seider. We are talking more than what Eichel got the Sabres, and if the Sabres are willing to give that up, Detroit should probably take it. Short term Seider gets replaced by Jokiharu, but the Wings could possibly select Nemec assuming he falls that far as a better replacement than Jokiharu. Plus, that still leaves 3 other draft picks in the first round that could be used as trade pieces to either move up in the draft to guarantee Nemec or to go after a big fish on the trade market. It’s a good and bad trade for both teams, with Detroit having to deal with a set back but getting a ton of assets, and Buffalo getting an elite partner for Dahlin to push them towards contention but having to pay a massive price. If Yzerman gets offered that, I honestly don’t know what he would do with it.

Still 22 games left and Seider is only 2 points under Rasmus Dahlins inaugural season. You figure it out.

You're taking Mrazek off their hands, giving up Olofsson, Anderson, & Miller, and retaining on two of those guys and all you're asking from TML is Liljegren and a 1st? You can stick them up for much, much more if they were interested in that package.

Dahlin is second all time in scoring in the NHL as a teenager, he had played in 3 seasons by the time he turned 20. That's not really an argument lmao.

Leafs shouldnt move Liljegren for rentals, especially considering Liljegren has outperformed all of the players coming back our way

Olofsson isnt a rental though

RFA at the end of his deal

While I get it, getting out of Mrazek and getting a top 9 forward in Olofsson makes sense

One interesting thing is those picks might be more valuable to Yzerman than Buffalo just because he's a very good judge of talent, I remember the Seider pick and a bunch of draft gurus saying what? who? because he was rated much lower but Yzerman knew he was an offensive star who basically went to a team to concentrate on defense which is why his offense took a big hit.

It would really depend on how much he thinks Seider can still improve, and if that improvement is worth what Buffalo is giving up in this trade. Because Seider is still a rookie, he can definitely improve some more, but there is potential he could be worth more than what this proposed return is in the future. I think the mindset Yzerman might take would be if he trades Seider for this much, how much closer to a dynasty team reminiscent of the Russian 5 times would this put the Wings, but also if he would prefer Nemec over Seider? You obviously wouldn’t want to trade Seider, but if you trade BUF’s pick and another first to a team like MTL or whoever is likely to be the first to pick Nemec, you replace Seider with Nemec and also have the other first round picks from the trade that could give the Wings more firepower. If Buffalo offered this, I would not want to be in Yzerman’s shoes for this trade.

yeah it's a pretty intense trade - I think in the long run it might favor Detroit but Buffalo has kind of lost the fans after 10 years of pain and in my opinion Power, Quinn, Peterka only gets a few of them back but add Seider and a high end free agent like Hertl some free agent fairly cheap tough guys and you'll get most of the fans back.

About Hertl, well, he isn’t a UFA to be anymore. Sharks signed him for 8x8.yadda whatever decimal place number.

I don’t think Mrazek costs that much to dump considering he was a great goalie before this year and it’s only been ~15 games in Toronto. Not really enough to make him go from worth 3.8 mil to needing a 1st rounder to dump 3.8 mil
