ARZ a Contender before they go extinct

Description
I'm gonna state the obvious so no one feels duped here
I'm a MTL Fan who just had a thought when discussing what could save ARZ
Only thing i thought was even close is Austin Matthews
This wouldnt be Instant Contender build either its having the 1 Piece to attract UFA's and players who usually including ARZ in there NTC lists. They can build off that with the draft pieces they'll have after this years draft plus what they have in their system now

ARZ in this scenario wins 1st OA pick then trades it to TML for Austin Matthews in a bundle
Logic here is it gives TML another 1st OA pick in return who's on an ELC
ARZ ends the Never Ending Rebuild by securing a player UFA's will actually want to play with

Value is something that will take many posts to bang out
IMO Wright is more of a Toews or maybe Tavares then a Matthews
I think he'll have big outtings as far as Goals go but he's a playmaker while AM is a Goal Scorer
Traditionally that has more value and is just one of many factors to consider

My question is does TML do it ?
I know how much they love Matthews
That said Hometown Kid becomes Captain of his home team
That's the type of change that turns a whole franchise around when were talking AM level talent

"The never ending rebuild"

Chayka wasn't rebuilding, he was just incompetent. Armstrong has been GM for 1.5 years and he's actually committed to a rebuild. They're not going anywhere, and they're not going to start trading futures for current help anytime soon.

Matthews has two years left on his contract. Trading for him now basically ensures Arizona won't be competitive during his time there, and he'll walk in FA. If Arizona wants to take a run at Matthews, they can do it in two years when they've been rebuilding for a while and won't have to give up any assets to sign him.

Good of you to do Arizona ACGM. It’s an underrepresented fan group and it’s nice to see people post in their behalf.

Since Leaf fans also seem to be scarce on CapFriendly, I will accept on their behalf.

Well done.

Arizona survived 25 years, they aren’t going anywhere, only way Mathew comes will be in a similar approach to tavares going home from the island. When his contract is up, the leafs will be ready for a retool and the coyotes will be primed for a buy and a new building. The story pretty much writes itself..

So was every GM who went to ARZ trying to build through the draft lol
How many tried landing a top 5 NHL players

Less about the long term
More about copying Lebron James style of building teams from an NHL POV lol

Do you ever wonder why no other teams in the NHL use the "Lebron James style" of building teams?

Disagree
Players are annoyed that teams like ARZ are costing them money as they havent covered their operations cost since 2003
CBA will put pressure on the league in a big way as players already are saying they like every other Pro Athlete want all their money on time
No more of this like X% to help the league out

This trade will never happen
ARZ surviving longterm isnt happening
Bettman will eventually have to give up or his replacement will move on from them

This isnt NJD where they helped them and then they were fine
ARZ hasnt had a competent GM yet as its where people go to learn and make their mistakes before leaving
Mr Armstrong may or may not succeed but 1 thing is for Certain he wont stay in ARZ longterm as no one does

They do its just through the draft usually to get that player
In 3 decades almost ARZ has yet to have a 1st or 2nd OA pick
Their #3 OA's are Turris and Strome which they developed poorly
#5 OA Wheeler refused to Sign went UFA and they used the #5 OA in 2018 for Hayton over Zadina and Hughes . . . . .

Sure Amstrongs history with his Dad making final call on Drafts is pretty good in STL
But Daddy isnt here no more

A Team so historically screwed when it comes to selection spots and development of those prospects might be smart to avoid making the same mistakes over and over

usually that happens when the price for a player is so criminally high that there literally is nothing logical you could offer a team for them that they would take.

Phoenix tv rating for nhl tv deal is what’s keeping them there and also an abundance of guys that just want to own there own franchise. Without that market tv deal would take a hit, the right new building and location and they will be fine, especially if they can put a contender together for a arrival for there native son.

Given the market it would lose its team to is Houston which is a HUGE market this doesnt make sense
Houston not only has a huge fan base they show up and in big numbers

Right now they arent even trusting the NHL or ARZ Coyotes to even pay their bills requiring 50% Cash up from Lebrun was saying.
They've had to many new owners screw them that the communities in ARZ like the concept but not the Risk it poses as a nearly 30 years expansion who's been in rebuild mode 30 years almost

NJD struggled for a while but put out great teams and made a name for themselves
Heck STL didnt win a cup until a few years ago but skated so truly great teams
ARZ hasnt done that either as at best you cant say that year their team didnt suck as bad as usual at best

Maybe, but trading a bunch of assets for Matthews with 2 years left isn't the way either.

I think the plan is to go for him in free agency, but build for the future in the meantime. We'll see if there's any interest from Matthews in a couple of years.
