that lehkonen trade is laughable. Pens should be adding a 1st in there

I haven't seen a lot of Pettersson so I don't know his situation.
He's averaging less than 16 minutes and being used sparingly on special teams, with a contract over $4M for 4 years.
I can't see any team being too keen on acquiring him.

You want one of 3 things from a defenseman:
1. Offensive contributions including PP
2. Defensive contributions including PK
3. (Ideally) Both

He's not doing any of those while playing 3rd pairing minutes with a 2nd pairing contract.
Can you explain why?

A world where Tampa, Florida, Colorado, and (insert team here) are all eyeing each other and know they are probably going to have to go through each other eventually.
That will be easier to do if you have Lehkonen and they don't. Who's going to blink first? It's not going to be Montreal.

You have to realize MP is not a top 4 dman. Less than 17 mins career atoi and has been deployed consistently as a top 4 dman once in his career 3 years ago. He is on a bad value contract

no he is not... he played less minutes last year cuz he had dumo (who's the perfect Dpair for Letang) and Matheson (who is playing unreal) in front of him so it's not a downgrade on Pete... our D core has been just this good

he's a good D who could play top 4 min 2nd pp unit and pk for many many teams

Sure hes playing 6th dman minutes and neither special team because of the people in front of him. Give your head a shake they wouldn't be running letang out there for 26 mins a night and dumolin for 22 if they trusted MP to play more.

Lehkonen will get either a 1st or a quality prospect at the bare minimum
If not keeping him as an RFA is extremely doable as he's not owed a KK like pay day by any means

Its far easier to take a loss on players we dont need who are over paid then get low balled

Odds of us staying healthy til the end of the year is slim
Chances are those 2 will continue to absorb minutes and make an arguement to push out Drouin and Byron next year when they will be pending UFA's that season
Plus MSL keeps saying things like "Good teams have guys like him but Championship teams NEED guys like him"
Its seeming more likely we take a loss on Drouin or Hoffman then move out Lehkonen

MTL has absolutely no need for any D that isnt a Right Handed Shot
LD we have so much depth that we have Romanov locked in with Norlinder ,Guhle,Harris and now appraently Petterson competing for it
Thats before you consider our Junior LD tearing it up who are 2-3 years out in some cases again all on LD

On Rd we have Brook who's been used on RW because his D is so bad
Great junior player with speed that would make Byron look slow who cant nail his timing at Pro Levels
Over Skates the Puck a lot creating a lot of turnovers in 2 and 3 vs 1 situations

If you want a MTL winger for Petterson, you'd have better chances with Hoffman. At least the contracts are similar.

yeah I get it, no deal. I'm ok with it. I'm just saying that adding a 1st in that trade from the pens is just a laughable suggestion that's it.
imo if Pete would have been a RD the trade would have been fair
