Value on Russian prospect rights

Description
Ever notice how signing rights to Russian prospects are *never* traded? Hard to get a sense of how they are valued since there are no comps to use. On one hand, there is a ton of risk with the Russian prospects, but in the other hand, a lot of that risk is mitigated by signing rights that never expire.

So I am curious, what would be the realistic ask on these players? Do you think they are too discounted? Might it be a good time to start collecting their rights? Is there a strategy that could be developed here?

Late first would not get Marchenko. Expected to play middle 6 next year and expect him to be a top 6 for sure. he's a guy they have loved since he was drafted

No, I think he still goes in 1st round.

(now if you asked all 32 teams to submit their draft lists, he would probably drop on an 'average rank' but all you need is one team to take him 1st)

Seems about right to me...Marchenko isn't getting a ton of minutes this year, but I could still see that gamble.

Probably your best scoring prospect not named Perfetti.
And his highlights are easy in the eyes.
Would look him up when you have the chance.

Marchenko is definitely a 1st+, if not 1st++. CBJ are very high on his potential. Naturally gifted W who was a projected 1st rounder his draft year. Stock only fell because teams knew he was going to stay in Russia for a time. He'll be with CBJ by the end of the season.

Vornonkov would be a 1st+ as well. He projects as a big, physical, defensive minded natural-center, probably 3C. with some potential for 2C if things break his way. They see him as Boone Jenner 2.0, basically.

not close at all for Marchenko. The reason why Marhcenko is not playing is because hes coming to NA next season. Its a common thing in Russia and exceptionally in SKA that if you are leaving the team, you wont get any ice time.

I think you are overthinking it.
They are just putting together lineups to win games.
Plenty of young guys still getting playing time.
And Podkolzin was getting regular minutes right up until the end.

no, am not. I have been following KHL for about six years and its always the same thing and exceptionally in SKA. If a young prospect is leaving he wont play big minutes. Marchenko played in the first line in the EHT tournament but he plays on the 4th line or WHL with SKA. And right after when Jarmo said that Marchenko is coming to NA, his minutes dropped.

And tell me one player from SKA that is getting playing time. None. And podkolzin played the same amount of minutes as Marchenko.

I have been following him closely as he is considered one of the top prospects the Jackets have. He is always mentioned in a similar breath to Kent Johnson as they are expected to hit the NHL at the same time. He had his minutes dramatically slashed when he announced he was leaving after the season. It is certainly a 1st + at minimum I would have to think

Podkolzin played every game in playoffs last year.
      Marchenko is out of lineup.

      Marat got more TOI
      As did Bardakov, Morozov

Even if you think his lack of minutes is performance related (its not) the price is still the same

Is Marat or Bardakov coming to NA next season? no. and there's the reason. Marchenko got big minutes too after he got drafted, but when he said that hes going to leave, his minutes dropped. Podkolzin is a good point but yeah...

But cbj is not trading him for a first round pick, when we have been waiting for him for about three years.

Minutes may get cut during regular season.
But during playoffs, they will usually just take the best 12-13 forwards they got.

Also, he got Covid in China.

I still think he'll still be great when he gets here either way.
I am a proponent of his.

(but if they are going to bench him for playoffs...might as well cut him loose and let him play out season in Columbus. #FreeKirill)

Podkolzin played every game in playoffs last year.
      Marchenko is out of lineup.

      Marat got more TOI
      As did Bardakov, Morozov

Kid had an 11-5-16 line through the first 26 games of the season. Reports then came out he declined a contract extension, and was sent down to the VHL.

Conspicuously hasn't been able to get off the fourth line ever since. It's a bummer. It's petty. And I don't doubt it has an effect on these kids' ability to develop.

I suspect the Jets will need Rashevsky (22yrs old in October) in an ELC to be productive while staying cap compliant in the future. I thought he would come over after his season at Dynamo Moscow was over or maybe in the fall, but who knows what happens now against the current backdrop.
