It’s a deadline deal, with half retained, so why wouldn’t he be? Risto and Savard both got 1sts and Subban is better that both of them. And Subban has long track record of success in playoffs (0.65 ppg in 96 games).

    Buy the dips!

Grubs has rebounded some recently and we know he is a good, and in a bad system.
I think he can return to being 0.915+ goalie.

Sure he is! A RHD at .4 ppg half retained. SC experience. Fitz would have to give Buf a pick (4th) for retaining half of the half. Throw in Vesey here if you have to. RHD at TDL are important. He's not Nash/Mont PK, but Savard Risto last year? hell take back a couple of UFAs and ask for Hathaway.
Defensemen are dropping like flies right now, Muzzin will speed up any moves for Tor

If anything, I thought I was on the lower end here. If Subban brought back a late 1st, I wouldn’t be surprised. (Expecting something like this though)

A team with better defense than SEA could help provide for an improvement, but can the Devils really offer a better defensive system that counting on a goalie bouncing back, after 30, really works? Otherwise you are locked into the worst kind of bad contract...a goalie that is hard to cover up for. Why are we trading for bad contracts at all and hoping? If you want to buy a guy on a bounce back that is on a flawed team, why not look at Holtby short term? Pay more immediately with less term so you aren't stuck with an albatross.

At least Subban you can put on the 3rd line when he was awful.

I'd agree that he's better than Risto but the difference is that Risto wasn't a rental and old head hockey GMs bought into him because he has an established name and is big and tough. He fits their idea of a number 1 Dman perfectly and all they saw wrong with him was the situation he was in

Savard? He was miles and miles better than Slewban and after retention, he costed less than 1/4 of the price PK will even at 50% salary retained.

    I don’t think he’s that good
He got carried by the Avs defense
And hoping he can rebound is a huge risk with his 6x6 contract

Assuming your very own eye test (especially when comparing players to your team's players) is the emd all be all is very foolish. Because if you had looked at his numbers, you would've seen that Savard was acquired for his very high level defense.

Subban sucks defensively and isn't what he used to be offensively. He also has reputation that affects how much the players (potential teammates) like him.

So, in conclusion, a team would be acquiring an overpaid (yes, even at 4.5M he's still overpaid) defensive liability with bleh counting stats. Oh, and he's likely to commit some dirty play that will get himself & the team penalized.

A 3rd-5th round pick in value is what I expect for 50% retained PK

Savard was above average defensively and provided little else, even on penalty kill. Overall he has been a negative player. But Subban is a + player on both sides of ice.

Certain people hate Subban for certain reasons. But hockey people do not see it that way. And he has not been a problem with teammates, at least not in New Jersey.

Subban has never had great defensive or penalty impacts. He's a fine offensive Dman but that's it. At 4.5M, he's much, much less of an asset than Savard was.

He's not very valuable to start and when only so many teams can take on his cap without another team retaining salary

There's bigger fish so they'll take priority over PK, driving his value even further down

    Subban -

Boggles the mind. Some people just act irrationally with Subban. Something about him that people just hate.

Everyone **** on the Risto trade but Buffalo got the return they did because the idea of him is awesome and old heads will overpay for traits. "Can't teach size"
Risto was bigger, younger, cheaper and had another full season under contract.

Savard cost Tampa what he did because he was a fraction of the salary and filled a clear role

I'm not justifying the prices paid for those guys, I'm telling you why people are so low on Subban. Who, we all love to refer to as 'Slewban' for a reason

Hell, PK has already traded for less than what was given up for Risto and Savard

Marchand is arguably the best winger in hockey and on a steal of a contract, not an overpaid defensive liability who's also a rental. How can you even consider them comparable?

Be happy with your extra 3rd if he even gets moved

The ability to get under one’s skin (even when they are not doing anything) is the comparable trait.

But since we are on the subject, I submit this for everyone’s enjoyment.
