I used to love Pearson

Description
He used to be a clutch. A perfect finisher of a play by Hoglander or Horvat, an underrated top 6 winger. Now he's playing on a line with Dickinson and Garland, and he does not compliment their style of play. He hasn't touched the scoreboard in a long while. He no longer fits on this team.

I can't believed Benning resigned him when there were teams willing to pay a 1st/2nd for him

Yeah if we got even a late first projected to be 28ish overall, I would have definitely done that

2nd woulda been just fine. I don't however think we need to give up picks to get rid of him. He's worth a 3rd or 4th still.

He is bad at finishing, but still drives the play well and knows where to be. If he had a bit better a shot, he'd still be in the 40 point range by years end. He has been streaky this year, and I agree that long term he isn't a fit. But he has value. I could see him getting a 2nd with retention or a 3rd straight.

Id be over the moon with a 2nd. Picks don't seem to fly around quite like they used to though. GMs are wisening up to their value.

Dude, if Pearson could have netted a 1st/2nd in last seasons trade deadline, he 1000% would have gotten dealt, but no team was likely willing to give up that much for Pearson back then, so that's why he didn't get dealt. For sure he'd fetch a 3rd or a 2nd (with salary retained). Easy means of creating cap space

As he does not score goals he does not fit Buffalo’s long-term goals either. The Sabres already have several players who create plays, (Krebs, Mittelstadt, Cozens) what they need are more guys who finish. Specifically a top six caliber guy, and Tanner Pearson is no longer it. Aside from being willing to take on expiring contracts from teams looking to create cap space for the trade deadline, the Sabres are more interested in bringing on somebody who fits our current core and would be here long-term.

Obviously. But Benning wanted him back as "leadership" when probably 99% of the fanbase would have been okay for a 2nd or 3rd

Benning wasn't entirely misguided in that, Pearson may not be alpha male type material, but he certainly can be a guy whom young guys look up to, and he could still fetch a 2nd/3rd rounder today

I agree,
but Pearson could still be a useful player for us
Most Sabres fans think we need to get more physical
I’d agree as long as the guy can actually “play” as well
Pearson might not be an ideal scoring winger,
but that what we’ve got Skinner & Tage & Quinn (coming) for

Could we use more “scorers” ?
Of course
But we could also use a guy who’ll play tough & score 15goals playing in the middle6 for us

Especially if Vancouver is just dumping him for cheap
