Quoting: Shire
Seth Jarvis is the dream for sure, but the Toffoli ship has sailed unfortunately.
In terms of Lehkonen, if he was not expected to sign (UFA for reference), a 1st is all I would expect, but he is someone who plays hard and can go anywhere in the lineup. That alone is extremely valuable to have. You have a point with him not playing C, but his defensive analytics were superior to Coleman's when he was traded while having slightly less offensive production on a worse team.
Dmen rentals are always at a premium at the deadline, he can easily fetch a 1st with what we are hearing. If the habs didnt make the playoffs last year and let him show his play there, I doubt he goes that high.
Yeah, what’s funny is I made that post then immediately found out after that Toffoli had been traded.
But value wise, Lehk and Chiarot are not that valuable. I’m not saying that what is posted here won’t be what they get as a return, or close to what they get, but they are both being overvalued. You can groom a player into those roles, it might take a bit of time, but players can grow into those kinds of roles. Players are more valuable if they can play across the lineup board, on special teams, but can also contribute a decent amount of offense. Both Chiarot and Lehk can hit the defensive sides of the of the first 2 criteria I mentioned, but the lack of offense from the both of them lessens their value.
It could also have to do with how they are used. For example, Staal’s offensive production has taken a hit this year compared to last year, but he has been used in a mainly defensive role this year, whereas last year he was being used in every zone. But with the emergence of KK, Staal gets more defensive time and KK gets a bunch of the time that Staal would have gotten in the offensive zone. MTL playing style seems to rely mainly on their transition game and sending the puck to the point for a bomb. But since they lost Weber (their bomb), their playing style that worked so well in the playoffs last year, becomes a hindrance. This year could just be a learning curve year to learn how to play without Weber, but you can only do so much with the lineup problems the Habs have had this year.
I guess what I’m saying is we can agree to disagree on their values and just leave it at that.
