Overpay to NYI. Barrie has more value than Mayfield and I don't think Varlamov will fetch a 1st. Koskinen doesn't have much value either way because his contract is up in July.

Sure but in my mind you gotta give to get and typically that requires an overpay. The Goalie market isn't exactly deep, so NYI could dig there heels in a get a 1st. Barrie for Mayfield is more about adding the physical component EDM desperately needs.

Don't like the idea of losing Pysyk but we would want a RHD prospect and a mid round pick i think. Kemp/Kesselring + a 5th would do it.

Why does "you gotta give to get" always seem to apply to Edmonton but never to the other team? It's gotten so bad that even the most optimistic fans expect to overpay in every trade.

Fair enough but I think the timing of the deal speaks to the "WHY" of Edmonton being on the wrong side of the deals. 1. Prices are traditionally higher around the Deadline, 2. Edmonton is dealing from a position of weakness (needing goaltending and 3rd pair RHD cost controlled), 3. Market demand vs supply.

The sad thing is these were 2 obvious issues in the summer, most fans did not want Barrie or Smith back because they felt Barrie was redundant and Smith was too risky. Had Kenny not signed either he could have addressed these via free agency or trade for less of a cost than he likely going to give up now in order to correct the mistakes he made.

Sabres have no spot for Lagesson and even if we did I would not be interested in trading Pysyk for a LHD. You can have him for a 4th-5th round pick in 2022

Well you posted it publicly, so that means it can be under scrutiny no? I provided constructive thoughts on something you posted, take it or leave it. Just keep in mind that usually one posts on here to learn from other users, not just say the comments another user makes is worthless

Islanders are one of the few teams that I don’t think Barrie would fit in with and with term remaining it’s an investment don’t see them making.
Oilers wouldn’t do it because they just resigned Barrie after he led all d in points and since he had a really good chance to cash in during free agency but didn’t choose to stay signed for far less than he could have gotten I’m sure Holland provided him some insurance he won’t be getting moved. On top of that swapping goalies doesn’t really work for Edmonton since bringing in term creates a complicated issue with smith signed for another year and skinner can’t be sent down anymore. Don’t see Edmonton paying significant price just to run a three goalie tandem.

If I'm Lamoriello, I say no to the first trade. Koskinen has minimal value to the Islanders as a backup goalie about to go UFA, so if you break the trade down to its component parts, you're looking at Varlamov for a 1st and Mayfield for Barrie. I think the Islanders would say yes to the 1st part, but no to the 2nd because it doesn't fill a need. Mayfield's a penalty-killing RD3 with a $1.45M cap hit this year and next; Barrie is more of an RD2/PP QB with two more years of a $4.5M cap hit after this one. Islanders already have Pulock with a $6.15M cap hit and Dobson needing an RFA raise starting next year, so I think they're going to want to go more economical for RD3 and use those assets elsewhere in the lineup.

I'm not saying you can't scrutinize the deal, I just find it funny that even caught the eye of anyone.

Are either of those guys any good though?
Bc if they aren’t an improvement over Laaksonen or Fitzgerald,
then i think we’d just rather have a better draft pick

Yeah good point I was just trying to make the trade work for the original poster. Would be generous to call those guys "B prospects" but at least they're right handed. I think a B prospect + a pick would be fair value.
That being said I wanna extend Pysyk.

I wanna extend him too
But IF we trade him:
Then again…. if those guys are just prospects on the same level as what we’ve already got, then they can keep them
Just give us a better draft pick instead

Supply and demand is actually in the Oilers favor this deadline - it's a buyer's market. The playoff race in the East is over already and the West has a bunch of teams in build mode who will be selling even if they're close (VCR, ANA). There will be tons of players available this deadline.

Only reason I clicked the post was because I saw a trade involving my team. Hence why I noticed it
