TOR
  1. Manson, Josh
Détails additionnels:
Difficult to think they'd give anything of significant value for Manson who is a UFA, 30 and has been injured this year. Players who play that style don't age well.
ANA
2.
TOR
  1. Miller, Colin
Détails additionnels:
A potential upgrade. Again what are 2nd tear pending UFA's going to fetch?
BUF
3.
TOR
  1. Roy, Matt
Détails additionnels:
Find it hard to think LA would want to trade him with term left. I've seen a few ideas of LA potentially wanting to move him. An ideal D-man.
LAK
4.
TOR
  1. Severson, Damon
Détails additionnels:
After watching the two games vs TML this week, I've lost interest. Feels like the exact the player Leafs fan would lose their mind over. Talented but frustrating.
NJD
5.
TOR
  1. Mayfield, Scott
Détails additionnels:
A - I don't think Lou would make a trade with Dubas unless he fleeces him.
B - Lots of Isles fans seem to be less than impressed with him
C - Lots of people don't see him fitting in the Leafs system
But he represents something the Leafs don't have - ability to play the body
NYI

TOR
  1. Braun, Justin
Détails additionnels:
Interesting name - thought Toronto might take a flyer on him in the summer. Is he an upgrade on what they have?
PHI

TOR
  1. Schenn, Luke
Détails additionnels:
Such bad bad memories. Good to see he's been able to sustain himself in the league so long. I just don't know if he's the guy you plug in at 6 and say "yeah I'm happy with that."
VAN
8.
TOR
  1. Chiarot, Ben
Détails additionnels:
Clear Dubas has a hard on for Chiarot. Wonder where the return falls here. Probably become weary of a 1st for a rental dman. I'm sure Montreal fans would love nothing but to move on and take something from the Leafs.
MTL
9.
TOR
  1. Murphy, Connor
Détails additionnels:
Might be one of the better options out there. Again you have to think it'll take a bit to pry him out of Chicago.
CHI
10.
TOR
  1. Hakanpää, Jani
  2. Klingberg, John
Détails additionnels:
Not both. I know the Leafs were after Hakanpaa in the summer. Klingberg is that D-man we don't need, but his name is out there. He's clearly an upgrade.

They've always had interest even when he was a FA. Montreal took Toronto to the shed last year - he played a role in shutting down.

LA might be willing to move Roy at next year's deadline or at the 2023 draft if one of Grans or Faber step up and show they're NHL ready, but he's not going to be available this year.

no they havent. the only interest was back when he was 'maybe' 3 years ago when he was a ufa and they clearly didnt want to pay him the hilarious amount he got.
and as far as taking toronto to the woodshed, is that what happens when you have the worst defensive numbers in the entire post season and get absolutely flogged by every forward you face but are lucky enough to have Cary Price going bananas behind you? Because that's what happened.

Don't know why you even think the Leafs have interest in Murphy,,,,,,His new 4.4m X 4 contract,,,no thanks.
Klingberg....not sure why the Leafs would want him as he certainly isn't a shutdown player.
Not sure the Leafs should/could acquire any Dman, unless there is an long term injury to their current top 7.

Of this list 2 guys make sense (Manson and Mayfield)

Manson works the best in terms of who would be best to play with Muzzin. He also brings that gritty hard hitting style our blue line would love to have.

Mayfield is the best in terms of thinking of 2022 (As his contract works). His playoff experience also helps

Everyone else is either to expensive (Need space for Campbell extension) or dont move the needle enough to be worth getting.

He played zero role in shutting the leafs down, they in fact, outscored Montreal and Price won the series. Chiarot has been utterly destroyed this year. For a guy who's supposed to be good at shutting down things, he's been absolutely awful at doing that.

Muzzin, Sandin, Dermott are all capable players and no one can replace Rielly.

"Shutdown players" is pretty much a myth in this day and age. Players good at shutting down stuff are great at denying zone entries, regaining possession and keeping possession. Many of the guys on here are not good at that. Chiarot, Mayfield and Manson for example are not good at any of those things but have a reputation because they block shots and hit while never having the puck.

Manson and Mayfield can't handle the puck. They are also slow. Having a slow bad possession partner for Muzzin would hurt him because he's not very fast and his puck moving skills seem to be taking a step back this year. Holl on the other hand does have some skill in those regards and he's also a very good skater. Unless you can find a clear cut improvement over Holl, there is no point in spending big. Klingberg and Severson are both upgrades over Holl. Everyone else on this list is a lateral move.

shut down players exist, but they are generally mobile smart players like Bergeron, Danault, Brodin or D.Toews. The big guy who cross checks but cant pivot on a speedy winger aint a shut down guy

Did you watch Severson against Toronto....

Hard Pass. That guy was lost out there and sure being with Muzzin will help him but wow was he bad.

Klingberg also is in the pass terriroty. Toronto really does not need another puck moving D as we got 3 rn. What they need is a solid defensive defenseman who can block shots and lay out hits.

Severson is still a good target as long as the price doesnt get too crazy. Even the best can string a couple back to back bad games in a row. Klingberg is just gonna cost too much.
The leafs dont need anyone who can block shots or lay hits, they just need someone good.

I agree completely. You need to be a good skater to be an effective shutdown player, otherwise you just hit people while the opposition skates around your zone blasting away.

Basing your assessment off two bad games is dumb. The guy is effective and has been for 3 years. He's better than Holl but this site hates Holl too because he's been really good while paired with Muzzin, because being really good in that situation is somehow a bad thing.

Severson in general doesnt fit in the long term plans. Hes making over 4mill and we got to extend Campbell so even by moving Mrazek and Ritchie we wont have the space to have him and extend Campbell

Klingberg is a nice Dman but does not fit what we need. We want to make a shutdown pairing with Muzzin. Klingberg does not help with that as he has trouble in puck battles and has trouble defending in his own zone.

What we need is a shutdown defensive defenseman to be paired with Muzzin. Someone who with Muzzin will help shutdown teams top lines while also being a solid PK duo. Neither Severson nor Klingberg is your guy for that.

yeah, you;d have to do some salary adjustments for Severson, but term and age are there as well as the results so he makes sense as a target, even more when you see the leafs have about 2.8 mill in deadline capspace accrued so far and that will be higher by the time march rolls around. Inlcude Holl or Mikheyev or whatever (or move them elsewhere) and he fits.

Good description about Severson
Talented but frustrating player at times, a player Toronto media won't like
He's been playing good the entire season but looked rough against the Leafs (everyone on the team looked rough tho)
But basically what that game showed was that Severson can be a good #2-#3 dman but can't be a #1 dman

Severson’s defensive metrics have actually been very good this year (his defensive goals-above-replacement in top-5 in NHL, PK on-ice stats good too). He does make mistakes at times, and they always seems to be in spotlight. He will likely cost more than many Leaf fans will like after that 2v1 play. But if Devils did trade him, it would be a cap-friendly move (retained salary, taking salary back) to maximize return.
