Calgary is a playoff team this season and defense a strength of their team. Why are they trading their current defensemen for a worse pairing and a future who won't be ready to make an impact at the NHL level this season?

Leafs wouldn't do it either. I'd argue the D doesn't even get better overall, and you lose Robertson.
