1. Namestnikov wold probably return a second-rounder (with retention) at this point considering his level of play this season
2. Staal has a NMC, while it would be cool to see him play with his brother Jordan I don't see him moving his family just for that unless he's seeing Stanley Cups through his eyes
3. I can't see Berggren coming in post-trade deadline and getting 1st line duties, move Vrana up there instead if you're trading Vladdy

Oilers don't even give this a look let alone an opportunity to be a thought, I understand they're offloading Koskinen, but giving up Holloway in the process for a couple rentals, and Griess not being a significant upgrade over Koskinen, makes 0 sense for Edmonton to do...

Greiss is actually a downgrade from Koskinen, LOL.

Leddy is terrible too. I have no idea why Wings fans think he's worth a top prospect.

Two horrific takes...not even close to true on either account.

1. I agree
2. Staal will have to move somewhere or retire as I dont see Yzerman re-signing him this offseason. Carolina could be a good landing spot for him.
3. Three balanced scoring lines. Mix and match however you like, but I like keep the Guelph line together, the 2 Czechs (Vrana/Zadina) together, so why not try the 2 Swedes together with Larkin?

1. Greiss is absolutely a downgrade on Koskinen.

Koskinen: 3.16 GAA, .900 sv%, -0.324 gsax/60
Greiss: 3.36 GAA, .894 sv%, -0.372 gsax/60

A quick look at the prior 2 years (here) shows Greiss hasn't been as good as Koskinen for several years.

2. Leddy is having a terrible year and the Oilers have Nurse and Keith holding down the top-4 LHD spots.
A quick look at NST shows us that Leddy is the worse Detroit defenseman for GF% rel at -12.72. Who would he replace in Edmonton, Duncan Keith? He's the Oilers best regular defenseman by the same metric, at +4.59.

Leddy is getting owned, even in relation to his teammates. And Keith has harder zone starts, fewer OTF starts and plays tougher comp than Leddy. Not a chance in 100 Leddy plays ahead of Keith.

Keith has played 33.7% of his TOI vs Elites (2nd most among Oilers defensemen).
Leddy has played 26.7% of his TOI vs Elites (4th most among Red Wings defensemen).

M. Staal does not have that value any more. Canes aren’t paying a 3rd for someone to just be a veteran presence in the locker room. Maybe if this was like, 2010, Canes would go for him, but he just isn’t the same player he was. DEt would be lucky to get a 5th for Staal right now.

Oilers get a similar caliber G (much cheaper), get an upgrade at D (only spending an extra $50K total). They also get a solid D prospect in return for a high end C prospect. With two top players in the world, the Oilers should be all in every year season. Holloway should be expendable.
Let's not pretend Holland wouldn't be interested in Leddy after signing Keith this past offseason. Leddy has been bad in Detroit, but he could definitely turn it around in Edmonton.

Then I'd just keep him if I was Detroit. He's been a rock defensively for the Wings, arguably their best LHD. Probably not the best fit in Carolina either, as he'll probably be a scratch due to their insane LD depth.

Greiss would be the 3rd goalie in Edmonton, Leddy would be, at best, 3rd pair (if he can beat Kris Russell out of a job as well as hold off the prospects who are coming on strong this spring. Even the most biased homer couldn't possibly think that's worth one of the leagues top prospects, could they?

I dont have the numbers in front of me, but I'd be willing to bet those numbers looked very different last season (Keith in Chicago & Leddy in New York). You think Keith all of a sudden found his game at the tender age of 38, and Leddy all of a sudden lost his game at the age of 30? Or do you think maybe it has a lot more to do with the teams they've been traded to? Imagine how awful Keith would be in Detroit this season..... LOL

I don't have to watch your sad-sack team to know that your castoffs aren't worth a high-end prospect.

Ken Holland has never traded a 1st round pick for a rental, and Holloway is worth a high 1st round pick.

Good luck. Ping me at the deadline when the trade results come in.

Greiss at $1.8M >>> Koskinen at $4.5M
At this point in their respective careers, Leddy is a better defenseman than Keith. Keith is just in a MUCH more favorable situation in Edmonton.
Biased homer: "Dylan Holloway is one of the leagues top prospects".
Sure, maybe top 20 or so. Don't act like he's a sure fire 1C, because he's not. However, he could maybe be a solid 2C behind Dylan Larkin in a few years. If you haven't noticed, that's one thing (the only thing) the Oilers don't need.....

Holland picked him, he's not trading him. And just because someone is "expendable" doesn't mean you trade them for 10 cents on the dollar. Use your head.
