Have I created the perfect team? No holes, balance and depth at every position, skill, size and speed abounding. Some will say that goaltending is a weakness and maybe they're right, but Skinner's GSAx/60 is really good so far (he's at +.405, Vasilevskiy is +.414, Hellebuyck +.361, Hart & Samsonov are +.317, Saros is +.261) so I see him taking on a more prominent role next year. Of course, it's way too early to know if that's a reasonable expectation or not, so of course a bunch of people will make definitive declarations on the matter in the comments section below. ;)
Oh, and I've fixed the bottom-6. They won't be giving up a lot of goals I don't think.
Prospects pushing from the minors and ready to grab a job when injuries occur include Savoie (LW), Bourgault (RW), Tullio (RW), Lavoie (LW/RW), Niemelainen (LD), Kesselring (RW) and Rodrigue (G). Some of these will provide cheap contracts the year following when the Keith bonus cushion disappears, and will replace guys leaving via free agency.
Some will say that it's unlikely Keith retires, but it's too soon to know that at this point. If his skills erode further I don't think he'll stick around. I'd give him a 50/50 odds to retire next summer based on what we see right now. If you're adamant that he won't retire, feel free to make your own AGM with Keith included.
Trades:
Vancouver is really struggling and Lagesson may not be happy with his deployment (we know his agent isn't), so I could see something like this happening. I've seen some Canucks fans express interest in Kassian as he brings physicality that they're lacking.
Montreal desperately needs more offense from the back end, can somewhat shelter Barrie due to having Petry there. The term is identical and the money nearly so. Interestingly, if you look at their production over the past 1.25 seasons they're identical: both have scored 61 points when you combine 2020-21 with 2021-22.
The Minnesota trade features two young players who are having down years production-wise and maybe need a change of scenery.
As for the following year's roster when Keith's cap bonus disappears, I have $14.5M coming off the cap and a bunch of those holes will be filled with high-end prospects. I fully expect Savoie and Bourgault to fill top-9 jobs effectively from the start of the 2023-24 season, if not before, while Broberg and Samorukov can move up to cover for Gio.
I believe he is trying to reflect the impact that would occur if Duncan Keith retires this summer, effectively the Oilers receive a salary cushion from the Blackhawks.

But wouldn't his cap hit go away when he is on LTIR?
I think the Oilers should be shopping Yamamoto now, and have no problem with them moving Barrie as well. I am fond of Kassian, but I realise he has underperformed his contract and will have to be moved unless that changes. Pitching Edmonton to Pavelski, Letang, and Giordano will be tough. If Keith retires and Holland has $9M to spend on his 3 and 4 d-men, and $3.5 to spend on a 3RW, he should be able to find some very good alternatives. If not via free agency, then he can use some of the capital he has accumulated in prospects and even draft picks.

I'd love to think guys like Pavelski, Giordano, and Letang would sign here but they won't without a significant overpay.
I don't think there's any proof that that's true. I've heard player agents say that Edmonton is one of the more attractive destinations in the NHL simply due to the core they have in place. Lots of guys WANT to sign with Edmonton as long as the money is competitive, in seasons past they haven't had the cap space to make competitive offers to marquee guys. This trio are all older and will most certainly be signing short-term deals for less than they currently make, although I tried to make it as realistic as possible (which I think I achieved). Personally I think your comment stems from a long-standing inferiority complex many Oilers fans have, but I don't think it's factual.

He's on LTIR his cap hit isn't counted
I only put him on LTIR because there's no "Retire" column. I thought it was pretty clear from the Team Explanation that Keith has retired in this AGM.
Keith's retirement triggers a cap recapture penalty of $3,438,462 for Chicago and an equal RECAPTURE BENEFIT for Edmonton.
The MN trade is probably fair. I don't like it from the MN pov, but others probably will.

I'm with you. Value is probably okay, but I don't wanna do it.
I've seen Greenway traded for a 2nd and wanted to include that exact trade, but then I didn't have room for Yamamoto. So instead of finding a seperate trade partner for Yamamoto I just made him the return for simplicity's sake. I reality you're probably right, Edmonton would trade Yamamoto for a pick and then flip that pick to MN for Greenway.

I think it's a mistake to trade Greenway at all. If it must be done for cap reasons to keep Fiala then do it in the offseason.
