Swapping Watson for Kassian makes little sense for Ottawa. They'd fill the same role, and Watson is half the price.

Part of that difference is made up by the 1st round pick going from EDM to OTT.

I think I'd do it. Brannstrom is a RD but is left handed if I'm not mistaken. Trotz likes a true LD/RD handedness dynamic when it comes to his pairs, so hopefully he could transition to the left side. Alternatively, they keep him on the right side but that means trading Mayfield (or highly unlikely Dobson) if the right move came along

he's not good defensively, good with the puck but gets knocked off it easy and has high turn overs. I would be wary trading any defensive depth until he has developed further

1. Watson isn't any better than Kassian and Kassian only has one more year than Watson at 3.2 million.

2. I'm really concerned what other teams would be willing to pay for Brannstrom next year.



3. In this trade, Ottawa is getting Bellows + a guaranteed 1st round pick for the upcoming draft.
