Description
The era is dead. All due respect but it is now time to move on and build for the future. If Kane and toews want to move and deals can be found, do it. Get value from any pieces you can. It’s time to stop making lateral moves that don’t even contribute to the present at this point. I said before the season this still isn’t a playoff team because JC is still around. Look where we are. Keep JC for the rest of the year at least so we can get Shane Wright for a future 1C and keep the focus on the youth and trying to grow some players. In other words, just do it the right way. Also, if anyone has any thoughts or other trade ideas, throw em out there.

Fleury was just traded to Chicago for nothing right after winning the Vezina. How does his value go up to a 1st rounder after the worst start to a season is his career

For the exact reason I just gave you in the trade description. Vegas gave him away cuz they were desperate for cap. That doesn’t change his value. Meanwhile, Chicago, who’s defense is ungodly bad, has been at the heart of his poor displays. He’s still fleury though, and a playoff will pay that for a playoff run.

While it would be fun to see Kane and Ovi together, it just doesn't make sense for the caps at the current price. WSH already have a log jam at wing, with WIlson, Sprong, and Oshie all fighting for top 6 minutes, and Washington can't really afford/wants to get rid of Lapierre and the picks required. I especially think they don't want to trade Lappy since they clearly have faith in him to play well, and with remembering that he could have gone far earlier had he not had injury concerns. Plus, this would mean the Caps would have to most likely move 2 players (Schultz and Hagelin/Kempny come to mind), which would overall weaken the team more than it might help.

That’s all very fair concerns. To the point of wingers, I would then ask, what if Oshie came back the other way? It frees up cap and a spot. As for lapierre, I feel like I’d want either him or mcmichael out of said trade. If it took taking a pick out of the trade that’d be fair.

It's a bad start for a 36, almost 37 year old goalie at a high cap hit. Team's will use everything that's happened since the offseason as leverage against Chicago so they'd have to at least retain to get anything of value imo. Which can't happen if they are to move Kaner & Toews like you do here with retention.

Oshie has said he wants to finish his career in DC, so he would most likely use his NTC to prevent any trade. On Lapierre, I do agree they would want one of the two, I just don't think Washington would be willing to part with that much, as it seems MacLellan might finally be planning for the future in some capacity

Don’t get me wrong, I forgot to add retention, so that would obviously be on the table. I know rules are in place for that kind of thing, but LTIR injuries happen all the time to teams so plenty can change. This is simply to paint a picture at the end of the day.

You say 6 games, but it's more than that. Last night OFFICIALLY made the hawks start to the season the worst start to ANY season for ANY team in NHL history. They still have never had a lead in any of those 6 games. Never been done before in history. So...it's technically accurate to say they're historically bad.

I'm with you. Last night was just me laughing. How can 3 Hawks forward go after the 1 DET Dman SOOO many times. Why do all 3 forwards need to cover the puck. Can no one play away from it? JC needs to go. At this point, even just because he's lost the locker. Words from Kaner speak less than actions by an entire team. He does not have the team ready.

The same reason the Wild give up a 2nd round pick to dump a guy who can play center (their position of need) for "cap space" when they can currently accrue cap space to acquire a $16m rental at the deadline: cap friendly logic. I love this site sometimes. lol

These are the kind of comments I love seeing when the idea of logic is brought up. MAF is bad now? It’ll cost to move him? There’s literally no logic attached to these statements. It’s just ignoring the fact that the hawks haven’t been good at all in front of him. I get if people don’t follow the hawks, but at the very least you gotta analyze what’s made fleury poor so far before commenting on the vezina winner’s start. It’s the worst defense he’s every played with. Sure there’s moments he should be better, but that was the same story in Pittsburgh and Vegas at times for him.

Ya notice how he isn’t an elite Vezina goalie when he isn’t playing behind some of the best D in the league? Coincidence? I think not

Which logic? Name another goalie who was playing poorly on a bad team that was traded for a 1st round pick. I can't think of another example. Kuemper this offseason and Ryan Miller back in 2014 brought in 1st round picks because they were still playing well despite being on bad teams at the time. If Fleury was still playing well despite getting shelled every night he might be more attractive to a contender if they were looking for a new starting goalie for a playoff run, but there's no reason for a team to give up a 1st when they could use the same pick to get a pending UFA skater who could help their team. Would a team making a Cup push give up something to get him? Sure. Does Chicago need to pay to unload him? No, that's just stupid.
