Way too early TDL buyers

Description
I'm not sure where NJ is going to end up this season but lets say they are legit buyers come deadline. Two moves I'd look at.

Sorry to any Seattle fans, I'm projecting here Seatlle out of a playoff spot come TDL. I could be wrong just feel like Vegas stole all of the good luck. Not sure what Giordano's value will be on an expiring contract and large hit but I'd imagine its still something legitimate considering his name and experience. Bastian seems like he might have a tough time fitting in in Seattle so he is thrown in to reunite with the beast 4th line in NJ last year. Broken down it comes out to something like ...Giordano->Boqvist, Clarke, 2nd and then Bastian->4th.

2nd trade not sure. NJ will want to add a veteran center or winger at the deadline if they want to make any kind of run. I am projecting one of NJ's young forwards to struggle and go down to the AHL. Here I sent down Holtz and kept Mercer but you could switch them and the same applies. I was big on a Rico return last year but have soured on it now with NJ's crowded forward prospect pool. But under the right circumstances it could make sense. No team is taking that full contract so maybe a fair way to balance it is to send an overpaid (but not cap dump bad) player back and have Anaheim retain the difference. NJ takes an extra year of a 3.4 hit with Henrique, Anaheim gets Johnsson for one less season and a C prospect and mid round pick for the retention. One thing about Henrique is he is able to play any forward position so he can be moved as needed to make room for younger players. 3.4M for 3 years shouldn't be a major issue and I could see him being a huge and necessary piece for a young team in the playoffs.

The path there may be tricky and it would hurt giving up youth and value for aging players but thats part of being a contender. But looking at the result, this lineup top to bottom is one I am willing to take to playoff battle. We've seen how quickly windows open and close, if NJ could put together a legit playoff contender with only Boqvist, Clarke, Johnsson, Zetterlund, a 2nd, and two 4th's out the door I would absolutely do it.

Lethal left side. Then the question is: Can you resign Giordano or will he want to retire as a Flame? Devils are looking like they are in a much better shape than Flames and Giordano will take that leadership role no matter if Nico is the captain or not. Why not do it. I also think the Henrique trade is something you easily do if you're Anaheim as Johnsson has shown flashes of brilliance and can use a new team and he is also younger. Maybe Devils even overpaid a little bit but overall it is fine I think

The draft compensation for that retain would be a little higher, imo.

I don't think this is the best approach, there isn't really any circumstance in which I'd want this Devils team to do these types of moves a TDL. Its not that the values are off, I think they are alright in both instances but as a Devils fan I want to see that the current core is competent enough to challenge for playoffs standing on their own two legs.
If we are to draw any lessons from Shero's tenure at New Jersey, it is that you should never sell off future assets until the team has proven they are ready to capitalize on short-term gain.

Yup this. Last move of bloated contracts sees PK moved for more value than perceived. If he has a good yr, being a rhd with 50% retention and less actual salary will have stupid amounts of interest

You’ll have to give up more than that if you want nearly 2.5 million retention on Rico

Zetterlund and a 4th isn't enough for the Ducks to trade Henrique and retain that much on him, Johnsson is pretty much a cap dump himself at this point.

Agree with Paulie Walnuts.
If they are in contention, I could see them a role player or two (like Bastian...or like Pat Maroon in 2018).
But non at the expense of Boqvist, Clarke, and picks.

Most of our needs can be filled from our pipeline.

Love Henrique, but Devils are not bringing him back.

Love these trades and I think they're both fair deals. However I think Anaheim won't retain that much on Henrique. Maybe like 1 million less retention.

To all of which I'd like to add, with $6 million in cap space, why does New Jersey need Anaheim to retain anything at all?
